Sad news about Anita Roddick

Somehow I totally missed the fact that Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, died on September 10th -- last week. I'm surprised and also very sad. She was only 64. I think that the push towards making companies operate in a more ethical manner (fair trade, ending animal testing on items like cosmetics, etc) owes a lot to Anita's passion for the issues and what she did with the Body Shop.

I don't follow news too closely in general but I'm surprised that I only found out about it as a fluke. [livejournal.com profile] nytshd3 took me to dinner for my birthday today and afterwards we walked to a Body Shop where I heard the news. Perhaps part of the lack of news coverage had to do with the fact that her death occurred so close to an anniversary of 9/11. Whatever the case, this is very sad.

I think it is really sad, too. I only found out about it yesterday or maybe this morning when I was listening to last week's On the Media. I was pretty surprised that was the first place I heard it since I listen to NPR almost all day.

evidently it only counts as news if it involves OJ :b
