The movie meme

Because it's time for the same movie meme....

What's the last film you saw on DVD? What did you think of it?

It was Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution" and it sucked. Is this really the same guy who made Crouching Tiger and Brokeback Mountain? I found it really boring and aimless. And if you're gonna show explicit sex and get slapped with an NC17 rating, can you at least make it good sex?

Doris actually liked it though.

I'm re-watching the X-men films but not counting them here since I've seen them all before.

What's the next film you plan to see on DVD?

Next in queue is "Earthsea", which is in queue mainly because it's based on an Ursula K LeGuin book and it stars the actor who played Bobby in X-men (I've been wanting to see him in something else).

What's the last film you saw in the theater? What did you think of it?

Saw "The Other Boleyn Girl" and I liked it. Natalie Portman's acting is improving though she's certainly not a great. They did a nice job chopping a long book into a movie format; they left a ton out but I was actually ok with that since they did a good job focussing on the sisters' relationship with each other. They did inexplicably decide to throw in a rape scene which wasn't in the book and left a bad taste in my mouth. (And which seemed pointless to the plot too).

I must, however, protest when Natalie's character is described as less good-looking than the character played by Scarlett Johannsen (sp?). Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, I know, but I think Natalie is totally prettier.

What's the next film you plan to see in the theater?

Maybe "Miss Pettigrew"? It doesn't look like there's a lot of good stuff out there now.

lol i guess that answers my question about lust, caution! ;)

i saw doris also rated superbad, did you watch that with her also?

i've noticed when skimming thru the movies that are in development and production and whatnot that there are quite a few based on books in the works. i guess its not that surprising but its kidna groovy.

O! I am so disappointed to hear about Lust, Caution. I was so excited to see a movie being made with two of my favourite pretty people in it - thanks for the heads-up before I had a chance to be miffed by it (and I would have been miffed, given that it is a bit of an exercise to get out atm, and I don't like to feel that the evening has been wasted).

And I would be very interested to hear what the Earthsea adaptation is like. I was so ropeable when I heard that they'd whitewashed the cast that I've never been able to bring myself to consider watching it, even though (or is it because?) I love those books.

Eeee Shawn Ashmore!!! (aka Bobby) I love him.

He was Jake on the Animorphs TV show! hehe.
he's in that stupid new movie "the Ruins" though which makes me sad.
