I have a bit of follow-up on the pronunciation of 'Janos'. Bottom line is that I must declare fail! in this regard. My Mexican in-laws have never heard of this name but are fairly certain that the hard "J" wouldn't be used, at least not in any names they are familiar with in Spanish-speaking countries, and it would have to be closer to a "Y" sound.
