Wow--that's horrible. And doubly shocking, since it sounds like you only recently discovered this woman. :(
Have to say, the US is pretty slack about world coverage. To quote Eddie Izzard:
"And now for the world news! Todd?"
"…?"
"What's happening in the rest of the world, Todd?"
