Reducing plastic

I am going to make a change to one of the things I'm doing to reduce plastic. I'm going to go back to my previous hair-care routine (which involves more plastic) and instead switch to plastic-free lotions.

I hate my hair. What I've been doing is using Lush's Dirty as the styling product, and washing my hair by alternating two methods: conditioner-only or baking-soda-and-water. I've been changing things up a bit (sometimes using a leave-in moisurizer that my sister gave me over a year ago before I started this, sometimes using actual shampoo, using more or less Dirty, sometimes rinsing with a vinegar and water rinse) but no matter what I do, I hate the way my hair looks. Been in denial over it but I just hate the way it looks. (I actually bought a wig last weekend but that is more to do with my drag-love. It's too hot to wear it to anything other than drag shows).

So I'm going to go back to what I used to do: wash with conditioner but use Aveda's Be Curly as the styling product. I had good results with it; I just hate that there's no way to recycle the Aveda product. (The Lush product comes in plastic too but it is able to be recycled and it lasts a lot longer too). Switching to lotions that don't come packaged in plastic will hopefully offset that a bit. Just placed an order for some via hardlotion.com

P.S. - I should note too that on days when I am working from home and on weekend days when I have no big plans, I will still use the lower-plastic methods above. Then I don't have to worry so much if the hair doesn't look good.
