yay that you got to eat at handlebar! Do you think it's possible they're on delivery apps but only much closer to their area? I was surprised to learn that a Thai place I really like near my workplace is on delivery apps, but apparently I'm too far out of the delivery zone (which is weird as I've seen places MUCH further away on the apps).
Can you find out what the rules are for autographs/pics/etc? I know at some cons you have to specifically sign up for pics if you want pics and they don't allow it at the autograph signing (presumably to keep things moving along quickly?) I do think sometimes it's up to the actor to set up whatever rules they have (e.g. costs for autographs, if pics are allowed, costs if they are, etc). idk if it's possible to find that out in advance but it would suck if you spent the time and energy to get all dressed up and then find out he's not doing pictures (or not doing them til the next day or something). Also, would it be weird to cosplay a non-anime character at an anime convention? Like, would it be like showing up at a the 100 convention dressed as someone from battlestar galactica? I legit don't know the answer to this question, i've only been to general sci fi events before. If there are pics from previous cons that might help answer the question. I mean, it's not like you'd get kicked out or anything. When it comes to making costumes, a thrift store is a great place to start (and it being october, costume stores can also be helpful). Does she have a particular key clothing item that would make her recognizable? A few years ago my niece wanted to be a character from the descendants, a disney show featuring the kids of disney villains. She wanted to be a character and I wanted to dress up as another character, but nothing too crazy so I could be obviously the character in context with her but also not spend a bunch of money since I was really only going to wear it while taking her trick or treating. The character I was cosplaying wore purple pants and a jacket that had purple and pink elements to it. I had a jacket that was the right shape/style so I got purple and pink duct tape and stuck it on to match the style of the jacket that she wore, plus I just got some stretchy purple pants. So you might be able to find something at a thrift shop that would be the right style, maybe even the right color (based on what I remember of the show, i don't think you'd need to construct something elaborate). One thing to keep in mind - I don't know if she had any weapons, but cons often have rules about weapons needing to be 'peace bonded' if you're going to carry them around (basically making them impossible to remove from a sheath or otherwise clearly marked as not a real weapon). Just something to keep in mind. Maybe a wig if appropriate, but possible you could use a wig you already have!
