Well, that is very interesting about your fic. I'm not sure how widespread requests are. More than once I have put in the notes that I do take requests. Me, I am so eager (uh, desperate?) for interaction with my fics and feedback on my writing, I guess that's why I've always been open to it. But I don't know if this is a common thing or not.
