Fanfic poll

Okay, I can't make a damn decision, so help me out here please!

[Poll #1159206]

P.S. - Happy Easter, if you're celebrating it.

I essentially vote for "no". The reason is, unless they've specifically asked you to contact them when you've created something new (or for any other reason), you'd essentially be spamming them.

I think I'd be a bit disconcerted to receive a mail out of the blue from someone I contacted once to offer feedback. Also, I assume you posted that fic in the places you'll planning to now - if they found it in those places then, I assume they'd also do so in future. It seems a little redundant.

Yeah, very true - spamming is not a good thing.

Some of the people I did exchange several emails with and there were a few who asked me to notify then when I uploaded new chapters. But that was long ago anyway, and like you said, if they found the fic in those places before they'll find it again.

Well, I certainly think if they asked you to let them know when new stuff was available, that's just fine. It was more if it was a one-off kind of interchange that new emails might seem a tad spammy. :-)

This is effectively a no vote, because I agree with the sentiment of #1, if not quite the harsh phrasing. Four years is a long time in terms of fandom drift! And the people who are still in X-Men fandom will find your fic anyway, swift like ninja.

Um, what was "harsh" about my phrasing? It certainly wasn't intended to be, and I hope [livejournal.com profile] stormkpr knows that! :-[

I'm not from the US, so perhaps it's a cultural thing.

I didn't take it as harsh at all. :)

Yay!

Wait, no! Not pointed at you at all, or at anybody! It was option #1 in the poll that I was agreeing with, just that I am frail like whoa about mental health issues atm*. It isn't you, or [livejournal.com profile] stormkpr, it is me, all me. Sorry for the clumsy phrasing.

No worries! I suppose I was in "efficient mode" as well - get the info out there and get there fast. :-)

Four years really is an eternity in the world of fandom.

I just love to get feedback but I'm a bit mental about it too. :)

I also vote no. I don't think it's mental but I don't think it's necessary...four years is such a long time that they might not even be in the fandom anymore, and they might find it disconcerting as [livejournal.com profile] trixtah mentioned. If they're still in the fandom and reading stories, once it's posted, they'll find it and read if they want to do so.

i know how organized you are. i'm sure you kept a list of who asked for further information later on down the road. i'd say if they specifically asked you to update them when/if you had something new, it would be kewl to email them.

i know how desperately you crave feedback... don't worry, you'll get it! :)

Woman, if you want feedback, I'll give you Feedback!

::points to icon and grins like an idiot::

But seriously, I'll give it a read when you post it. ^_^
