The Hunger Games

Yep, it's going to happen. I'm going to spend the better part of this weekend finishing up "The Hunger Games".

I only just started reading it 5 days ago. I've just got the last chapter to go now. It is a really intense book but I like it a lot. What did u think?

[identity profile] forgerness.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that it's one of my favorite book series in the world... I love Katniss a lot, I think she's such a strong character. I really really love Peeta, too. I really underestimated him at first (he's only the baker's son, I kept thinking), but he kept surprising me. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. And I love the narration in the book and the interactions between the characters. And yes, INTENSE, I kept bursting into tears.

I just finished the book. And - amen to everything you wrote! What a book.

I look forward to the next one in the series.

P.S.

Since I still have the final chapter to go, no spoilers please. :)

It never hurts to be sure! :)

good luck. It was a good read. Emotional but good

I loved it. It was wrenching and intense, and I loved it.

i'm a little worried about the movie. Not sure if i'd like to see it.

[identity profile] stormkpr.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Just worried in general that they'll botch it? When's it coming out?

[identity profile] ramblinghouse.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
i think it'll be out March next year.

Yeah pretty much worried it'll be botched. I think there will be certain scenes that'll have an impact no matter what is done, like Rue's Death. But after seeing some YA books turn movies like "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" ruined and or just not all it should be... i'm prepped for disappointment. hope to be pleasantly surprised.... if i see it.

Oh, I loved The Hunger Games. My pre-internship class was studying it in language arts and got me hooked! I received a copy of Catching Fire as a parting gift from them.

Try "Divergent" by Veronica Roth; it's similar, with a strong female lead and the dystopian theme. I just finished that one yesterday. It wasn't as good as Hunger Games, but it was still a worthwhile read.

Thanks for the rec! "The Hunger Games" isn't at all the type of book I normally enjoy. But I have to say it hooked me totally.

I have to say, that based on your usual book reviews, reading that you've enjoyed The Hunger Games was kind of jarring. But I'm glad you liked it. :)

Jarring in a bad way or just surprising?

[identity profile] jo-the-phoenix.livejournal.com 2011-10-17 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
just surprising. But I suppose it is a powerful book, and I know you're totally into those, so why should I be surprised? :)
