Sure to be the most thrilling post ever - my emotions about the Drag Reason Season 5 result

Spoilers behind the cut, for the Drag Race Season 5 result.

Alaska didn't win; as most folks expected, Jinkx beat her.

I have so many emotions about this. I spent months saying that I'd be thrilled to see her make top 5, and then she made top 4, and then top 3. But for the whole season, Jinkx has just gotten a ton of fans and has had the most positive fan comments on social media. I said all along that Jinkx would be next to impossible to beat, and she was. It would've been so great if I'd have seen Alaska crowned when I was there in New York, but it didn't work out that way.

I guess it's hard because Alaska picked up steam the last few episodes, and many fan sites were projecting her to have a real shot at winning. Me, I'm thrilled that she did as well as she did. But she looks so sad. There's a video of her and the other finalists with their reactions to the real result and she was crushed. Alaska did two interviews after the result and she was sad. She seemed basically ok but sad.

When I followed figure skating, we'd say that the hardest positions to finish in are 2nd and 4th. It's hard to not make the podium (and it has to be hard for Detox to have finished 4th, especially when a lot of folks thought she'd win this thing), and it's hard to fail to get the gold medal by a narrow margin. Of course a lot of skating fans tend to love the skaters who came in second; they'd get a lot of well-meaning sympathy. I actually think that coming in second may help Alaska a lot for the same reason. Instead of being the queen who beat the beloved fan-favorite Jinkx, she can be the funny and talented queen who almost won the title that her partner won last season after working so hard for it.

Alaska has so many gigs coming up; she doesn't have to worry about her career. She even said herself that she is the queen who turns trash into treasure, turns tragic into magic.

So I'm doing fine myself other than the fact that Alaska doesn't seem fine. Maybe she just needs more time. Maybe the hurt will lessen and she'll come 'round. She seems to have a very nice life otherwise, she makes a living doing what she loves, she has a great mom and a great partner.

I'd feel better if I just heard from someone close to her that she's ok.
