Spoilers behind the cut, for the Drag Race Season 5 result.

Alaska didn't win; as most folks expected, Jinkx beat her.

I have so many emotions about this. I spent months saying that I'd be thrilled to see her make top 5, and then she made top 4, and then top 3. But for the whole season, Jinkx has just gotten a ton of fans and has had the most positive fan comments on social media. I said all along that Jinkx would be next to impossible to beat, and she was. It would've been so great if I'd have seen Alaska crowned when I was there in New York, but it didn't work out that way.

I guess it's hard because Alaska picked up steam the last few episodes, and many fan sites were projecting her to have a real shot at winning. Me, I'm thrilled that she did as well as she did. But she looks so sad. There's a video of her and the other finalists with their reactions to the real result and she was crushed. Alaska did two interviews after the result and she was sad. She seemed basically ok but sad.

When I followed figure skating, we'd say that the hardest positions to finish in are 2nd and 4th. It's hard to not make the podium (and it has to be hard for Detox to have finished 4th, especially when a lot of folks thought she'd win this thing), and it's hard to fail to get the gold medal by a narrow margin. Of course a lot of skating fans tend to love the skaters who came in second; they'd get a lot of well-meaning sympathy. I actually think that coming in second may help Alaska a lot for the same reason. Instead of being the queen who beat the beloved fan-favorite Jinkx, she can be the funny and talented queen who almost won the title that her partner won last season after working so hard for it.

Alaska has so many gigs coming up; she doesn't have to worry about her career. She even said herself that she is the queen who turns trash into treasure, turns tragic into magic.

So I'm doing fine myself other than the fact that Alaska doesn't seem fine. Maybe she just needs more time. Maybe the hurt will lessen and she'll come 'round. She seems to have a very nice life otherwise, she makes a living doing what she loves, she has a great mom and a great partner.

I'd feel better if I just heard from someone close to her that she's ok.

As much as I like Jinkx, I really couldn't get excited watching her be crowned. I already knew who had won because of spoilers on FB but still. I was actually disappointed. But when Ivy won Miss Congeniality I nearly screamed because I was excited. I didn't know that she would win so maybe that made the difference. I do want to see more of Jinkx but I just wasn't happy.

Someone made a comment on FB that if Roxxxy hadn't been such a bitch to Jinkx she might not have gotten as much support. I don't know if that is true but it does seem plausible.

I do hope Alaska is doing alright, too. Her Mum seems like a wonderful person. And of course Alaska has Sharon.

Were you bummed out that you got the result spoiled? It was so hard to avoid spoilers unless you could somehow avoid all social media.

I thought you liked Jinkx and Alaska about equally? Just curious, did your view change or do I remember wrong? (Or were you just sad for me? If so, awwwww. :) Seriously!)

I am seriously thrilled for Ivy! She's clearly very well loved with fans.

I agree with the Roxxxy theory. She bullied Jinkx, thus garnering lots of sympathy for Jinkx. It wasn't the only reason Jinkx won but I do think that Roxxxy inadvertently ruined it for herself and partially for Alaska. Alaska having aligned herself with Rolaskatox early on - and not garnering steam till later in the season - didn't help her case.

Alaska's mom does seem like a sweetie. I am not happy with the result but I am ok....I just want Alaska to feel ok! I hope she soon realizes that all is going to be well.

Hey, I know you want pics from Monday and here are some good ones:

I think it was that it got spoiled that made it anti-climatic. Although there have been other times when I've known the results and still been excited so...*shrugs* And maybe it was also that it was almost a given that Jinkx would win. I was a bit sad on your account, too.

I do like them both but I've been leaning more towards Alaska lately. She's really grown on me lately. I think her sense of humour is actually closer to what I enjoy. And her busted-glammy look is awesome. She and Sharon have great chemistry that also makes them endearing. I do look forward to seeing what Jinkx comes out with next, though.

Ivy is a doll. I also got her elimination spoiled. I was a bit mad because she had been consistently good and then she gets the boot before some of the others that had been consistently mediocre. If it had been a point system, I bet Ivy would have gone far.

Jinkx did win fairly, I think, but I agree that Roxxxy inadvertently gave her the extra boost of support with the fans.

Those are cool pictures! Btw, is it just me or does Jade look like a creepy ventriloquist doll in her stage shot? Alaska certainly can pull off a trash bag, LOL!

You got a new Ivy icon - yay!! Lovely as always.

And yeah, getting a result spoiled does make it anti-climactic.

Oooh, cool that Alaska's grown on you a bit more! I also love her busted-glammy look, the way she can wear trash and look dishelved but also look good. I love her humor when she's out of drag too. Of course I really do love Jinkx and I'll always kind of wish that she had been up against anyone other than Lasky (or Sharon). And yes, the Sharon/Alaska chemistry is great!

Oh no, I didn't realize that you'd gotten Ivy's elim spoiled. Please tell me it wasn't from me??

Ah, Jade, she always looks creepy to me. Honestly I can't believe she even made it to top 8. I would've kept Honey before Jade.

I found a bunch of cool Ivy pictures so I decided to make a new icon. She looks great as a redhead in green.

It's interesting because I didn't care that much for Alaska at first - I didn't dislike her but she was a bit meh. But as the season went on, damn, she owned the show. It was close between Jinkx and Alaska because I really liked them both on the show but the more I saw of Alaska off the show the more I liked her. Jinkx hasn't been quite my cup of tea off the show, though. I still like her a lot but I think I'd go see Alaska before I'd go see Jinkx.

It wasn't you. It was Facebook. I usually check FB in the morning and someone had made a sympathy comment to Ivy and it popped up because I follow her. *sigh* I had a hard time watching the episode because Ivy was going home. That sucked.

Jade and Serena....eesh, shade and arrogance. I'd have kept Vivienne and Honey before those two. Fortunately we didn't have to deal with Serena for long.

Look - an Ivy interview!

Love your icons. :)

I am glad that Alaska won you over. I liked her from the get-go, but I think that to many folks, she picked up steam as the competition went on. One reviewer said she peaked too late and that may've been what cost her the title.

That is sad to get spoiled on the results. It's almost impossible not to, even if you try.

of course it's crushing and disappointing to be doing well and then lose out. like you said, over time the hurt will lessen. in any competition, if you felt like you had a good shot (and obviously she did if she came in second), it's going to be heartbreaking to lose. and it takes time to get over that hurt. but with lots of gigs coming up, a supportive partner and mom, and getting to see her number one fan on a cruise in a few months, her good life will take away the pain of losing.

You said it! I just hope she comes to this realization soon. It's ok and normal to grieve for a bit. Sooner or later she'll "get over it" and she'll be fine.

LOL at 'getting to see her #1 fan on the cruise!"

You should get a shirt or a button that names you her #1 fan.

Part of me really wants to. And part of me is like, 'dude you're a 40 year old woman (by the time of the cruise), it's not cute anymore.'

The hurt will lessen over time, I think. Fandom makes you take it harder, but the thing is, you're not taking it on your own. And for that matter, neither is she. I'm sure she's getting letters by the bucket load from people telling her she's still the Queen in their eyes and other lovely things like that.

*hugs*

*Hugs* Thank you. Like you said, time will help her a lot. And if she seemed sad and mopey on interviews yesterday, that's ok - she's only human.
