Fashion help requested! Do the colors go together?

So, next week I'm going back to work and this morning I spent some time going through my closet. I bought these two pieces separately. Do the colors go together? I'm terrible at this sort of thing, which is why I don't often buy separates.

It's an unusual colour combination, but it cooooould potentially work.

Does the jacket unbutton below the collar? If so, you could pair it with a blouse that picks up one of the neutral shades of the skirt -- I'd go for the light silvery grey -- and then match the jacket to another accessory, like shoes of a bag or earrings. Very neutral palette of colours, with the jacket to punch things up.

It'd depend on your skin tone, though. Some reds make me look absolutely seasick.

Thanks so much for the advice - I'll give that a try!

Yep, seconded. You need something to tie the grey parts to the top half.

Thanks for the input. I rummaged through my closet and found a gray top that should work!

If you have a necklace with gray in it or black - and possibly a little red/pink - you could pull it off. I don't see enough pink in the skirt, though. Or, if you have a dark shell that's either gray or black you might be able to do it.

When two separates have problems...accessorize! :D

I think a necklace or shell is indeed the way to go - thanks for weighing in!

I also suck at matching (so I don't really do it.) But I think nina's got the right idea. My aunt is awesome at dressing and she does stuff like that.

The world would be simpler if we didn't have to worry about matching. But I guess it's nice when it just happens.

Honestly, I'd be happy if I could wear a uniform to work and spend my money on something other than clothes for an office. Alas, it just doesn't work that way.

but then you'd never get to wear your clothes. I know this.

i agree completely with [livejournal.com profile] ninamonkey. add some grey to your top half and it should work out just fine : )

Thanks for responding - I'll give that a try!

Nice thing about neutrals? They go with just about everything. *g*

Looks good to me, and as everyone else has said *points up* --accesorize.

Glad you enjoyed your sabbatical, and hope going back to work isn't stressful. *hugs*

Thanks for weighing in. Yeah, I can't say I'm thrilled to be going back to work next week but I am thankful for all the time I had off. It was wonderful!

I second (or is it fifth?) the suggestion to wear a gray top under the pink blouse.

You know what would be cute, but is possibly not office-appropriate? For you to wear pink stockings that match the blouse in addition to the gray shirt/tank.

Now that would rock!
