Can we get some credit for this?
Sep. 17th, 2006 07:05 amDoris and I went to a wedding of one of her employees' yesterday. Had a wonderful time. We dressed up, wrote the couple up a nice check, socialized, ate, drank, danced, and were merry. Doris is nowhere near the activist that I am, but as for me? Couldn't help but to hear a little voice whispering in the back of my head, reminding me that legal marriage and all the myriad rights that go along with it are totally denied to Doris and me. Wouldn't this be kind of like an African-American going to an event held at a place with a "whites only" sign and them having to be happy about it? We didn't complain though, just went to the ceremony and reception and had a gay old time.
So, uh, my point is - can we get a pat on the back or something?
Actually, what would really be nice would be some legal recognition of our relationship instead.
