Hey, I can’t believe I haven’t posted since Sunday. I used to bore you with almost-daily posts! But this week at work has been really busy. Some days I did nothing but respond to emails and answer my phone, no moving forward on any of my projects, because it’s been so busy.
I’ll post a run-down of how my week went.
Nice things that are happening with me
-- On Wednesday, I had to do a Benefits presentation at my workplace. These things can fill me with dread simply because it’s not my area of expertise (Compensation is) and there are thousands of questions that one can ask about medical insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, the prescription drug program, healthcare spending accounts, day care spending accounts, paid time off, short term disability, long term disability, and on and on. I studied as best as I could before the presentation – even read the entire Summary Plan Description -- but I feared I’d get hit with a few questions that would stump me anyway. I got there to set up, the room soon became filled with 40 attendees, and who should walk in but...the Director of Benefits. The guy who sits in a different building and who I rarely see, who didn’t attend any of these sessions last year, but who is the expert on Benefits. He was there! And he helped me later on when people asked a few questions that stumped me! Wow, sometimes I really do think the universe is looking out for me.
-- I got two new aerobic videos (from collagevideo.com) and I love them! I love to work out, love getting new workout DVDs. I also love the weight machines at the YMCA.
-- Miracle of miracles, my family agreed to what I suggested we do for Thanksgiving. Only a few of us will be getting together for it this year, and no one wants to cook. I suggested we make reservations at The Chicago Diner, which is a vegetarian restaurant. None of them are vegetarians but they agreed anyway! I can’t believe it! I love this restaurant and can’t wait to see what their Thanksgivings are like.
-- The red organic cotton sweater I ordered from Gaiam not only fits me but looks awesome!
-- Someone who I know through my volunteer work had been out of a job for a while finally got a good job with benefits! I’d been worried. She’s not married and she’s middle aged, and her financial situation was really getting grim. But she landed!
-- My friend Chris came over and did some work around the house that I needed. He inspected the insulation I have. He was real thorough and he says he thinks it’s all good and I don’t need to shell out for additional insulation.
Not great things this week
-- Can’t think of any serious enough to mention.
-- Well, actually there are a lot of bad things but none of them happened just this week and I can’t do much about any of them, whether it’s worrying about the political and environmental future of this country and planet, agonizing over animals in labs, or just having to deal with a certain friend of Doris’s who is a jerk to me. I will try to work to change the things that I can and accept those I can’t change. I have food on the table, a warm house to live in, a good job, wonderful partner, and friends and family who care about me – getting upset about the negative things is just nitpicky and stupid when I have what’s important.
