Update on my DVD player's remote control

I'm running the risk of creating the most boring post ever, but I'm gonna chance it anyway. So, not long ago I posted that my DVD player's remote control device stopped working. I bought a new, universal remote. It didn't work (despite numerous tries, the assistance of my best friend, and even a call to the manufacturer). So I then ordered a replacement for the old remote control and it arrived today. It doesn't work either. (And yes, I checked that the batteries aren't dead).

So...at this point, I guess I need to get a new DVD player? Obviously my current one just isn't responding to any remote control at all.

Any tips on getting good deals on new DVD players? I imagine there are tons of sales around me, and someone else recommended just getting a cheap one since they don't last long anyway.

P.S. - I did try cleaning the outer part of my DVD player but no luck there.
