The 21 best episodes of XTAS
Mar. 23rd, 2010 01:05 pmThe greatness of X-men: The Animated Series is acknowledged in this article, which lists the 21 best episodes, as picked by one fan. I’m so with the author when he says that it was the “greatest on-screen treatment” the X-men have ever seen, including the movies and two other animated series. He lists his favorite episodes and why he loves them.
But of course, I couldn’t post without my own thoughts on this. I didn’t agree with his inclusion of...
- Cold Comfort (great to see Bobby but the episode itself was pretty blah)
- Obsession (Angel’s obsession with revenge on Apocalypse gets tiring)
- Whatever it Takes (boring!)
- A Deal with the Devil (more Omega Red boredom!)
- Repo Man (though I loved seeing Alpha Flight here, I can’t see this as truly being one of the series’ best)
And I would've included...
- Graduation Day (Come on, the finale was incredible!)
- Captive Hearts (This early episode brought so many X-men themes together seamlessly)
- Have Yourself a Morlock Little Christmas (perfect illustration of the team dynamics)
- Bloodlines (Nightcrawler’s past, the FOH resurgence)
- This Gambit fan would have liked to have seen X-Ternally Yours, Sanctuary, and/or Nightcrawler make the cut too.
The ones that he definitely called right: A Rogue’s Tale, One Man’s Worth, Beauty & the Beast, Slave Island, The Final Decision, Till Death Do Us Part, and the “satisfactory conclusion” to the Phoenix saga.
And yay for the nod to shirtless basketball in Out of the Past!
Interesting that Beyond Good and Evil was supposed to be the series’ finale. It was epic, it was grand but XTAS beat time travel into the ground, and I prefer the actual finale, Graduation Day.
