The sabbatical diaries

 
It's been a pretty quiet Sunday for Doris and me - mostly full of us cooking and watching Gotham. But this evening there's a bingo fundraiser for the food pantry - hosted at Hamburger Mary's! So we're going. 

And 2 other awesome things happened this weekend.

One is that I get a text from Pam saying she's flying in to see Alaska's Chicago show on October 5 and can she stay with me. (Like duh, of course you can stay with me!). Alaska's on like a 15-city tour with 2 other queens but it's not going anywhere near Pam. Turns out she spoke to him the other day and he said it's really good and he encouraged her to go. So she is. So happy that she'll be here for a couple days, and I'll get to see the show with her and Eric.

And - found a delicious brand of vegan "sausage" patties. ("Sausage" patties have been an addiction of mine since forever). Currently there are 4 different brands of patties that I eat, but turns out that only 1 of the 4 are vegan. But at the food coop the other day, I saw a new brand and it's vegan. I tried it, and it's wonderful. I also had vegan pizza today which was very good. I haven't like made an announcement or anything, but I think I'm going to do this - go vegan at long last. We do still have some cheese and eggs in the house, and I'll likely eat them since I don't want to waste food. But I think the time is finally right for me to ditch dairy at long last. I may make an exception when I travel for work, but I will try not to.

This heat wave is supposed to break on Wednesday which means it'll have been basically 7 days of awful heat. So I'm planning to again keep it pretty mellow tomorrow. I do need to get some stuff at Whole Foods for Doris. Other than that, it'll likely be another Netflix and cooking marathon for me. I mean, there are some other indoor things I can do, but none are grabbing me. I don't really want to go to a pool or a water park alone. (Plus none are really close to me, so it'd mean some driving and I'm pretty over Chicago traffic).
