Usual gratitude list

 
- I should start out by being grateful that I have a home. It's minus 3 with the windchill here on this Saturday morning. And I just read a report on NPR about unhoused people (in O'hare, in CTA trains, etc). Of course I often see them on the trains during my commute. 

- I've had a benign cyst on my eyelid for years. Finally got it lanced off by a doctor last week. The doctor was really damn good. I got horribly nauseated at one point and he was wonderful in helping me through it. (Downside: he's everyone else's favorite doctor too. Both times I went there, the wait was horribly long, and I have a follow up next week which means another long-ass wait)

- I texted yesterday with Kari, the person at the other company who would've been my boss. She had 2 positions open last time we talked. She told me she filled one and they are holding the other open till the summer...it basically sounded like it is still mine if I do get laid off in April. Good news. She also said the person they did hire for the other slot is great

- Fandom stuff. Writing is going so well - I'm at over 22,000 words. Just as importantly, I made major revisions to the overall outline and it's so much better than what I'd had before. I love the story. In terms of comments and kudos, the fic is barely barely higher than what I'd expected. But that's ok. I still love writing it. And I was noticing that my only fics that got into the 3 digits in terms of kudos have featured very popular ships and have come out at "the right time". This fic has a pairing that I believe no one else ships, and it's on 2 fandoms, neither of which is really popular right now.

- But speaking of fics and kudos, I noticed that my biggest Mackson (Miller/Jackson) fic recently hit 75 kudos. Considering how few people ship them, how they can basically be called a rarepair....honestly I think that 75 kudos for a fic on them is equivalent to like 150 kudos for a popular ship!

- And along the lines of the above, Sachin finally came through as he always does! He told me back in Vancouver that I no longer need to pay and request Cameos through Cameo. He told me to just DM him on Twitter when I wanted a (free) video. I worried a bit because he's almost never replied to my Twitter DMs before. So I waited till 2 weeks after our coffee date and then followed his instructions. Then I waited. He DID come through, though I think it took about a week and a half. (He admitted he is bad on Twitter DMs. I wanted to joke back 'yeah, I know' but of course didn't.) No complaints. It was so nice of him to do this. He also did a Q&A session on IG and gave me a special shoutout when he read my question.
