My list of incredible, badass things I've been doing this year! (LOL)
#19 - The local Dems offered me a place at a table at a lunch for a Congresswoman. I was pretty free that day so I said yes. It was nice.
#20 - And then ditto at work for a breakfast event with the Urban League. I even took the el to an area of the city I don't usually go to, got off 3 stops too early, and walked a lot. I think my boss was glad that I went.
#21 - Three day team meeting, lots of socializing, AND mandatory dinner on Monday - I did it! I socialized! More on this enthralling event below
(I know. There's absolutely nothing daring or badass about anything on this list. I am paid to do #21)
Gratitude
- Ordered jeans from Zappos and sundresses from Amazon, and they all fit. Yes, I prefer to shop locally. But the local upscale resale place closed, and I did try FOUR other local resale places but found nothing. So I went to the computer.
- Last week - staffed the Dems table at the farmer's market for the first farmer's market of the season. It's all lovely. The people, the produce, the place. :)
- More about the work event mentioned above. First, the less than awesome stuff.....with some coworkers, I really really felt I was trying....listening to them, trying to engage them, and getting nowhere. Ann said something to me that helped make me feel better. And I realized it's kinda like playing Hearts - you often can make a good effort but still "fail"
- But as for the good stuff on the above! My boss and her boss and our immediate team are all awesome. As were several of the others at the meeting. (Weird note? Two of the people I felt I was getting nowhere with are gay. One gay guy and one lesbian who I hadn't realized it till I saw the pic on her lockscreen and asked her about it, and it was her and her wife at their wedding. Uh, anyway glad there are 2 other queers on the team even though they weren't that interested in chatting with me). And Day 1 started with what could've been an awkward discussion and afterwards my boss texted the 3 of us to say she was proud with how we handled it. And my boss was awesome again by making it easy for me to get out of the optional dinner on day 2 (as I said, I did the mandatory one on day 1).
- And at the end of the day, for someone who is introverted and doesn't love this stuff, I think I did pretty well
- 4 of the 6 trips I made to/from the office this week were on public transit
- A 3 day weekend is almost here! And the weather's been nice. And lunch Saturday with Chris is scheduled.
