It's been a long time since I've had time to review any XTAS episodes.
Episode: Mojovision
Brief summary:In perhaps the worst episode of the entire series, a tyrannical being known as Mojo beams the X-men into his universe and forces them to star in his TV show.
- We went from the great episode “Beauty and the Beast” down to this. Sad.
- I guess it is a bit reassuring to see that corruption and craziness are not unique to our universe.
- This episode had one saving grace. I liked the early scene with Jean and Scott in the electronics store. They had some priceless facial expressions as they explained Jubilee’s damage to the VCR and as they reacted to Mojo. I liked seeing their arms around each other too.

- And one of the sweetest Jean/Scott moments ever is in this episode. It’s small but significant. During the first battle with Mojo, Jean is briefly knocked out. Scott carries her to a bench. Seeing that one of her arms is dangling off the side, he gently places it on her torso before he goes back to fight Mojo. That kind of detail speaks volumes – both about XTAS as a show and Scott as a person.
- During the first fight with Mojo, we see Wolverine, Beast, and Storm run into the electronics store. So they all went to the mall together with Jean and Scott? Cute.
- Mojo remarks that he’s going to call wardrobe and get the X-men some better clothes. It is too bad that when they are on his TV show…they wear the same stupid costumes as usual.
- On the TV screen before his segment, Hank’s last name is misspelled as “Macoy”.
- I liked how Jean used her psychic energy to bust up Mojo’s machines. Sometimes I think with mutants who have powers like Jean’s or Xavier’s that it is often too easy for them to end any battle because they are so powerful.
- How did Wolverine’s shirt get so torn off during his battle? (Hugh Jackman around and thinking he’s in X3 again?)
- The episode ends with a check-in with Magneto and Xavier in the Savage Lands. Magneto remarks that when he built a structure here, he thought he was creating a whole new world. Kind of sad – whether it’s the Savage Land or Asteroid M or even Genosha he’s always trying to build a new world and is so dissatisfied with the existing one.
- Rating: One star
Episode: Reunion, Part 1
Brief summary:In the conclusion to many story arcs that took place in Season 2, Xavier serves as bait for Sinister to use in luring the rest of the X-men to his lair.
- I guess what I don’t fully get is: if Sinister’s plan all along was to use Xavier as bait to get the rest of the X-men, why in God’s name did it take so long? Xavier’s been in the Savage Lands the entire season! Good for Sinister for thinking ahead, but why let it stretch out for so long and wait so long to use Xavier as bait? Maybe all of his fancy equipment wasn’t ready yet.
- I always thought it was interesting that Sinister’s Nasty Boys literally drag Cyclops and Wolverine to their aircraft – but instead of dragging Jean, one of them carriers her in his arms. Chivalry from the bad guys.
- There was a nice Wolverine-Cyclops moment. Cyke freaks out a bit when Sinister gets away with Jean as prisoner, and I like how Wolverine calls him “pal” (sounding sincerely…well, nice) and reassures him that they’ll find her.
- I remember liking “Reunion” but was a bit surprised when I re-watched Part 1. It’s basically all set-up for Part 2. I didn’t even find that much to comment on. But I look forward to having time to re-watch Part 2, since it contains one of the best Romy moments in the whole series.
- Rating: I’ll wait till Part 2 to rate this one.
