I could think of 100 things I'd rather do than work on politics. Hey, I came across this article from a couple years ago. It has a couple good ideas. FYI:
Their ideas are easier than, say, knocking on doors for a political candidate. (Which I dislike doing but I'm going to do again....I just need to find a Saturday that I have a chunk of time on, and where it's less than 90 degrees out!!)
