Fic - pushing my boundaries

Usually when I write about fic here, I'm writing about how I wish I got more engagement on my fics. But - different fic topic now.

I realize that in the past 14 months, I have expanded my boundaries when it comes to fic! Usually I write canon-divergent or canon-compliant stuff. I tend to like to stay in the realm of the canon material. But in the past 14 months, I've written:

-Two modern Christmas AUs (Under the MistleCrow and We Wish You a Mackson Christmas)
- One royalty AU (A Little Light Role-Play)
- And one modern vampire AU (the forthcoming A Feral Yearning)

The last 2 were part of fic exchanges. Very glad to have participated in them.

I have also written fics where I took the characters from one verse and put them into the Spartacus verse. But the above four really feel like a stretch from my usual, and I'm proud of that.

very cool! I bet fic exchanges are a great opportunity to expand your horizons! did you get (relatively) good feedback on those?

I think that is something I've realized in the past few years - fic exchanges are great because of how they make you expand your boundaries.

As for feedback, I got excellent feedback on Under the MistleCrow and A Little Light Role-Play. (The former just hit 150 kudos which is a lot for me, and the latter is above 100). I haven't posted A Feral Yearning yet, and the Mackson Christmas one is a rarepair so I didn't get much feedback other than from my friend M.

Also: Wait, vampires? You wrote a thing with vampires?? Did I miss it!? I am subscribed to your Ao3, but I have mostly been focusing on "Parallels" so I bet I missed it.

I can't wait to post it! But it's for a fic exchange and we're not to post till March 15 at the earliest. Whether the fic gets 2 kudos or 22, I loved writing it and that's what's important!

Got it. I haven't done a fic exchange in so long--I wanna say 15 years or so. I'm no good at deadlines these days.

Looking forward to seeing it though! What's the fandom, or can you not reveal that either?

Totally hear you on deadlines. For a lot of folks, they make it feel like work or school.

The fandom is Shadow and Bone, and pairing is Jesper/Wylan. (With the rest of the Crows in th background)

I've found I'm better at To Do lists without a set date attached. Deadlines, not so much. It's a purely psychological thing, but if I do it that way, stuff's more likely to actually get done.

Gah! Yeah, this is the other reason I needed to get Netflix working again: I'm still not caught up. (But it is working again!)
