Lost without Firefly

Doris wants me to watch Lost with her. I've never seen it because I rarely watch any TV at all. I told Doris that I don't want to get into another fandom. I'm not ready to give up Firefly yet.
Same reason that I've never watched Battlestar Gallactica.

Date: 2007-03-05 03:44 am (UTC)Me, I like to have just 1 fandom at a time. I know we'll never get more episodes of FF or a sequel to Serenity (and after what they did to Wash, I don't want a sequel to Serenity). But I'm not ready to let FF go and I still want this to be my main fandom.

Date: 2007-03-05 04:10 am (UTC)agreed. and agreed again about no sequel--it wouldn't be Firefly, it'd be far too much of a spinoff. [i actually prefer to think of Serenity as DID-NOT-HAPPEN, cos of what happened to book and wash.] everything else i'm into right now, regardless of whether it's current or not [come to think of it, none of it is. except maybe house, which i'm not actually watching, though] is second to FF. and yes, i don't want to add anything i think i might get really into cos...well, cos i'm a browncoat, dammit.

Date: 2007-03-05 04:06 am (UTC)Darlin', I am fair certain I have more than a span of years on you and Firefly has been nothing like anything else I have everr seen or felt. You are amongst a group of just plain folk here that welcome you home no matter where you are from.
Seen Lost and BSG- meh, no heart, no humor, not a fully realized 'Verse to me... JM2C...
Welcome home darlin'.

Date: 2007-03-05 04:43 am (UTC)For me, it's entirely possible to be a fan of a show and not become fannish over it. Obsession is the exception, rather than the rule. For example, I am a loyal BSG addict to the bitter end (despite some of the recent lousy writing)--but it just doesn't inspire me to write fanfic or make vids, icons, etc. Basically, it's an hour-a-week commitment.
Maybe you should take Doris up on her offer. If you think you're getting sucked in, just take a deep breath and enjoy it for what it is. No need to go hunting down the nearest comm. Who knows? It might even strengthen your Firefly-love. :)

Date: 2007-03-05 12:07 pm (UTC)I guess that's true - maybe I can watch them and not get obsessed with them. I guess I don't really know until I do watch them. I did watch Star Trek Next Gen for years -- even recorded all the eps -- but never got obsessed with it, wrote fanfic on it, searched for communities on it. So maybe I could watch or enjoy these other shows without giving up FF.

Date: 2007-03-05 07:21 pm (UTC)I think Firefly stands on its own. Once you've been touched you'll never truly leave it behind. While I am no longer feverishly fannish like I once was, I recently made an Inara/Kaylee video and will be posting a fic next week (and possibly another vid). So I dip in and out of my fandoms. I usually have one overriding one at any given time. Right now it's Murder in Suburbia...who knows what it'll be in a couple of months?
