So today I received via Netflix a movie in which stars our own Captain Reynolds. I'd heard about the movie through various gay/lesbian press. It's called "Outing Riley" and is about an Irish Catholic gay man who dreads telling his family that he's gay. Nathan Fillion plays one of his straight brothers. I smiled when I saw an add for this film in a lesbian magazine that listed the movie's actors, and underneath Nathan's name listed his previous roles in Firefly, Serenity, and Waitress.
Without giving away any spoilers, I'll say that I thought the movie was just okay. Nathan does a nice job and he has a big role. The main character is also very appealing, and it takes place in Chicago (my home!) so I sure loved all the shots of Lake Michigan, Lincoln Park Zoo, etc. But at the risk of sounding like a prude, I thought the movie was needlessly raunchy in places and that it tried so hard to be funny but really wasn't all that hilarious. Maybe my expectations were too high.
