Wow, I had something awesome happen today! Debbie Rasmussen, Director/Publisher of Bitch magazine called me today. How cool is that? We talked for a bit, got to know each other, and she talked about plans for "Bitch" for the future. I've been reading the magazine since its inception and have always loved it. It was great to talk to one of the magazine's superheros.

Yeah, I know, I sound like a fan girl. Which I guess I am.

You know, it's funny but the only thing I have a real desire to write (aside from lame book reviews that I post in my journal) is fanfic. Don't know why. I guess I'd rather read Bitch than write for it.

What about you? Would you write for Bitch?

Hmm. Maybe. I don't really think I have the cred to, though; a lot of their writers either have an activist or academic background. I'm still absorbing a lot of different perspectives, having come to feminism relatively late, so I guess I, too, would rather read it than write for it.

I hear what you're saying. But really...you think you came to feminism relatively late? I'm having a moment where I can't recall if you ever told me your age or not, but...I think you're younger than I. And it's not like we're 60 here!

And even if you did truly come to feminism on the late side, that might give you a unique perspective.

Aah. I just remembered I hadn't replied to this, and I meant to.

I'm 33, so yes, just a bit younger. :) Sure, there's always time, and I'm not writing off the possibility completely, but I guess I don't feel completely ready. Although it might depend on the article. If it were something like analyzing sexism in anime and manga, I'd be all for it. However, I've only been exploring anime fandom for about a year, so I'd need to do a lot of research--and I'm not sure I'd want to devote that much time to it.

I was saying to Sweetvirago above, the weird thing is that I have no desire to freelance. I just write fanfic. And it would suck if Bitch ever printed fanfic. Unless it was really good X-men or Firefly fanfic. :)
