You know how you have old fandoms - fandoms you still feel affection for but aren't really into anymore? How do you feel when that old fandom releases some new material and you happen to (or intentionally) watch it?

I feel a mix of things depending on the situation. Usually a bit nostalgic, sometimes a little sad that I'm just no longer into the fandom, sometimes I feel guilty and like I should try to catch up on what I've missed. Once in a while, some new material will rekindle my interest in the fandom.

Sometimes I have that "ack! do not want!" reaction, because I want to remember said fandom fondly, and new canon does nothing but turn me off the OLD canon (for example, my love of Firefly, sadly, did not survive Serenity).

However, sometimes I end up more geekily invested and creative and obsessive and such after a reboot than before (Doctor Who and Star Trek, for example).

Interesting - thank you.

Serenity is what got me into Firefly...but after watching the whole Firefly series numerous times, I came to wish that the canon had ended with the show and not the movie.

This. that was a different verse. Serenity was colder then Firefly.

Very much so. Watching the TV show after having started with the movie, I was surprised at how much nicer Firefly-Mal was than Serenity-Mal.

I wasn't ever really into the Dead Like Me fandon, but I did watch the show and loved it!

I just saw the movie on syfy (barf at the name) and I miss the show a bit ... but things were missing.

I think my only genuine 'Old Fandom' that I'm not active in anymore is Voltron. This makes me kinda sad, but there's a lot of stupid shit there that I do not miss at all.

I cannot think of any old fandoms that I am no longer into (this is due to inability to remember things, rather than a lack of them) but have really enjoyed re-booting of things as of late. Chiefly, Battlestar Galactica (which, okay, was not really a fandom of mine in the original form but I liked it and am obsessed with the reimagining) and V, which along with Star Wars, was one of my first and continues to be a favorite. I am really enjoying the new V and wish they would just hurry up with the next episodes.

I'm glad to hear that V is good. I loved the original. But I just don't do TV anymore.
