I say it Ex-zay-vee-er because of X-Men so I'm kind of biased.

I think with the hard "X". If, though, it is a French name, I've heard it pronounced it "Zah-vee-ay".

Zay-vee-er unless it's in "Saint Francis Xavier University" then it's Ex-Zay-vee-er or just "boo hiss". :p

LOL!

I didn't know that when people say the University's name they do start it with the "ex" sound.

I think it might be because the most common way of referring to it is "Saint FX". Otherwise I would expect the French pronunciation since it's in the Maritimes.

I pronounce Xavier the same way I'd pronounce Xena or Xanadu: X = Z.

Unless I'm talking X-men and then it's X-avier because that's how I am used to hearing it.

The third pronunciation would be for Javier. :)

I've always pronounced it Ex-zay-vee-er due to the Cabbage Patch Kids when I was little, the boy (or whoever he was) was called Xavier, if I remember correctly. Either way, his name for some reason was on the back ends. :P

So this one is not due to X-men!

Nope, I had not heard of X-Men until my teens when my sisters watched the cartoon, I watched a few episodes back them but really didn't remember any of the characters. I think Cabbage Patch Kids had a cartoon when I was a kid, so I likely heard it there...or when you do the 'adoption pledge' that came with your doll, mum would've read the name off like that.

Ex-zay-vee-er here. Obvious reasons are glaringly obvious, eh? XD

Am I really the only one who voted "other?" Hm.

I guess the first option, "Zay-vee-er," is pretty close, but when I say it there's only two syllables. "Zave-yer."

Actually, I pretty much do that too. I guess some say it in 2 syllables and some in 3.

...but then, I'd pronounce it that way because of X-Men: The Animated Series. That actually used to bug the heck out of me and my friend when we watched X-Men: Evolution; a lot of the students pronounced it Zay-vee-er and to us, it felt like they were completely dropping the "X." And let's face it, if it's X-Men, you should be pronouncing the X!
