Things that were nice this past week

-- Last weekend, Doris and I went to the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The weather and the gardens were gorgeous. We then ate at one of our favorite restaurants, the vegetarian Blind Faith Cafe, after which we went to the lake shore (it's within walking distance of the restaurant) and enjoyed the weather, which was slightly sunny, warmish, but with a nice cool breeze.

-- At work, they are moving all of our offices around. My coworker Sheri and I have been moved into a temporary office for 2 weeks. This temporary office is in a former conference room and has floor-to-ceiling windows, is secluded and quiet, is right near the beverage station so I can refill my water mug all the time, and is nice and cool in terms of temperature. We frequently glimpse baby squirrels and birds from our windows. I actually have been looking forward to going to work because I love the location so much.

-- Doris agreed to going on another Olivia vacation! Olivia trips are all-lesbian cruises and resorts...they have the nicest, coolest people on the trips, fantastic entertainment, and lots of cool stuff like dance lessons, games, tons of excursions, good food, etc. And, you know, you can hold hands and dance together and no one blinks an eye. We'll be going to Punta Cana in April.

-- I took today off from work and will get to see Doris later on today!

Things that were not-so-great this past week

-- Work has been hectic

-- My upper back, neck, and shoulders are sore. Am doing way too much hunching over the computer.

-- I'm late on replying to pen pals. Due to the 2 items mentioned above, by the time I get home from work, I'm tired and sore and having a hard time sitting over a computer any longer.

-- I'm re-reading Red Azalea by Anchee Min, about her life under Maoist China in the 60's and 70's. It is one of my all-time favorite books and is breathtaking beyond description, and it's utterly heartbreaking to read how billions of people were treated under this brutal regime.

-- At work, one department we deal with a lot hired a new director, Jane. At first she seemed cool but now she's proving herself to be brusque (even rude) and unable to tolerate any disagreement. The good news is that others see this but the bad news is that we dealt with her predecessor a lot and expect to have to deal with her often too.

-- Doris and I quarreled over the phone. We rarely if ever actually fight, but we did have a disagreement. Disagreements are ok, but I guess it's the source of the disagreement that upsets me because I don't see it as something that's ever going to change. Her mother, and her family in general, has way too much sway in her life and she puts up with too much crap from them. But what can I do? It's her family, her life, and she does not see a problem with the situation as it is. So...then it's not really my place to ask her to do anything about it.

awww. well i'm hopin for more of the good stuff for you and less of the bad stuff going forward :) awesome that you're going on another olivia vacation! unfortunately, with the situation with doris and her family, you're right, there's nothing you can do if she doesn't see it as a problem. not sure what you can do to alleviate the situation. but imho, its good that you can discuss it, even if you cant agree.

pssst.... i still need a bday wishlist for ya :)

*nods* You said it. Her family situation tends to make me steamed but she has no desire to change it and doesn't really see that anything's wrong with it. So my problem is only my reaction to it.

I sent you that list several days ago. Don't tell me there's another problem with my email. :-( I'll send it again (from stormkpr at usa dot net) and let me know if you don't get it within 10 minutes or so.
