Ugh. The big department at work, they are doing an in-person meeting in December. It's to start late on a Monday with dinner and go through mid-day Wednesday. There are group dinners Monday and Tuesday night which I HATE and they are late in the evening which I also hate plus I'm an introvert.

So I'll lay out some options with pros and cons.

1. Lie and say I'm sick. Perhaps on the Sunday before, alert my smaller team that I have a sore throat and headache. Tell them again Monday and that I'm too sick to go in (plus don't want to get anyone else sick)

Pros -
- It gets me out of it
- If we just communicate over text, I can probably pull it off. I don't think they'll call me

Cons -
- I hate lying
- Will they find out?
- I would miss all of the meeting, parts of which might be good
- Let's be real. I will be sitting at home feeling guilty. I am good at finding stuff to do tho?

2. The opposite of the above. Just go to the whole damn meeting

Pros -
- No lying
- I'd get to attend the meeting, some of which would be good
- I mean they do pay me well. Maybe I owe them this?

Cons -
- Ugh, 3 really long days!
- COVID?? We're eating at restaurants during COVID??
- Also fucking extroverts. What the fuck is wrong with them? Dinner 2 nights in a row??

3. Talk to my boss and look for a middle ground. Maybe I do dinner on Monday but not Tuesday?

Pros -
- No lying
- I'd get to go to most or all of the meeting
- If one dinner is skipped, that has to help from a COVID standpoint maybe?
- I can do one dinner. That is do-able

Cons -
- I'm sure some would be pissed that I skip out of the meeting. If I go home Tuesday at 5 or 6, ppl might be like 'What you not going to dinner?'
- Still exposed to COVID 1 night

4. Not really a full option, but I can also wait and see. If COVID resurges, they might re-evaluate this meeting.

You know...the more I look at this list, I think maybe I go with door #3. Note: When making case to my boss, mention this plan will save the company money since I'd only need a hotel Monday night. Everyone else as far as I know is staying at a hotel both nights

Also a good point about them possibly reevaluating closer to the time.

I guess I can see why they're doing dinner two nights in a row if the idea is that everyone is staying both nights. I feel like if you go monday, do the monday dinner, and then go home Tuesday after the meeting, you've not only attended the whole meeting, you've also put in face-to-face time and did the social thing on monday night. Are you going to miss anything important on Wednesday if you go home on Tues?
