It would be nice to do an update.
Actors and fandom
For my favorite actors, I stalk their IMDB pages, hoping they'll get work and be in stuff. Like seriously I refresh their pages every day. I'd mentioned that one of my favorites from Spartacus was going to be in Cowboy Bebop. At last it aired and I saw it. It's not a great role (he's a bad guy, he dies right away)....but he gets a few lines in and a bit of camera time before he dies. He also appears in a flashback later on. As they say, you just gotta hope that one role might lead to another. I was touched that a friend of mine who does NOT like the character he played in Spartacus made me a bunch of screencaps of him in Bebop. That was sweet.
It's been nearly 2 years since that big convention for The 100 in Vancouver. (Jan 2020. And it remains the last time I was on an airplane. Can ya believe that I used to fly like 2-3 times a month?) I really do miss having something like that, a fan convention where I got like a ton of time with my favorite actors. All I can say is that I knew at the time I was lucky to be having such a great experience...and dang I was right! I'm glad I did the best I could to savor it.
Really enjoying The Wheel of Time. Might get fannish about it? Maybe? I do want to do a 3rd watch of The Outpost as I am attached to these characters.
Fanfic
I am mostly done with my piece for the Spartacus secret santa. I haven't written much in the past 2 weeks and would like to write a bit more. I always miss it when I go for stretches without writing a lot.
And crazy that it has been almost a year since I posted the fic that became my biggest hit yet. The one that eventually would get 300 kudos, the one where people would message me on Tumblr to say how much they loved it, the one where I'd check my email and have 3 comments on it...then check again 4 hours later and have 2 more. I miss that!! (In terms of kudos, my next highest fic has 169 so truly nothing has come close to doing as well as this one).
Okay, let's get out of fandom and actors, and into real life
In January, Doris and I will officially hit 20 years together! Our plan is to invite our closest friends and family over to a dinner. But we haven't made any firm plans yet, other than deciding to do it in the spring when the weather's better. I'd love to have it at a restaurant, but that's a no-go unless COVID numbers get better. So we're likely looking at having it catered. Maybe we do open-house style where people can just come and go? That'd make it easier to get more people inside. We'd need lots of food that is ok at room temperature (unless people want to just microwave stuff like I do!!)
Work is fine. Going into the office 1 day per week. I have a big project that should keep me busy through March or so. But I don't have much else, so come March I might need to insist on more projects.
Thanksgiving was fun. We did as we've been doing the past several years - Thanksgiving day at Doris's parents, the day after at mine. (We don't spend the day apart, largely because my parents really want to see Doris!)
I did have a productive weekend, doing some cleaning, and sorting through all the gifts and the gift bags. Almost all X-mas and b-day gifts are sorted and placed into their bags! I made a new stew recipe and it was actually awesome. Might do it again.

Date: 2021-12-02 03:07 am (UTC)For the secret santa, does that get posted somewhere or does it only go to the person who requested it? Are you waiting for someone else to write one for you?
Is there anything you have in mind to write?
I like the 'open house' plan - I'm sure you can come up with some foods that don't need to be heated/refrigerated, but you might get hungry if it's going on for long enough. Maybe you have snacky food up to a certain point and then get pizza for whoever is still there? We have folding chairs we could bring if that would be helpful! Do you have an idea about how many people you might want to invite? It's exciting!
Do you get to pick which day you go into the office? I was going in on Tuesdays for an in-person meeting but the team got shifted around and they announced in the new team meeting that they're shifting to an all-virtual option with very few exceptions, so I think I don't have to go back into the office for a while. Works for me!
I think it's so adorable that your parents really want to see Doris!
Nice job getting everything done with your gifting! I haven't really started yet (no surprise there!)

Date: 2021-12-02 08:18 pm (UTC)Basically we'll post what we wrote and tag the recipient. And yes, I get one too.
I think open house really is the way to go. Maybe snacky food plus stuff that just takes good at room temperature. It should be substantial, filling stuff. I would rather do it at a restaurant but I just don't know with COVID. I do think that a sit-down dinner at our house might just feel a bit too stuffy, plus we'd be packed in like sardines. If it's open house, we can invite a lot of people too, like maybe 30 or 40??
Yes, we get to pick the day. that is good.

Date: 2021-12-07 12:34 am (UTC)Yeah, I think it would be fun to have snacky/room temp food and then you don't have to try to arrange for everyone to get there at a particular time, you don't have to play the game of trying to get all of the warm things done at the same time, etc. You could also do something like snacky stuff in a crock pot or something if you had something you wanted to keep warm. You could move the table off to the side you can put food/drinks on there and make lots of room for chairs for folks to sit and chat.
