Let's list out some more gratitude

- I had a jury duty summons for the 23rd but I called the # the night before, and they said not to come in!
- Donated blood on Tuesday. The people there were great, and it was right here in Oak Park. (At times in the past, I found that when it's a blood drive taking place somewhere other than like a designated blood donation facility, the staff can be harried. But here they were great. I did learn that they've traveled to this church in OP many times before for their drives).
- Finally getting the master bedroom painted. One accent wall in 'peach brandy' and the rest in 'crisp straw'. We needed the seafoam green color gone, to better coordinate with the fireplace we got for X-mas
- One of my Spartacus fics just hit a milestone - 150 kudos. That makes it my 3rd Spartacus fic, and 5th in any fandom - to hit the 150 mark
- At work we got yesterday (Friday) off because we always have a People Day around March 1. (The date our incentive checks hit). I'd forgotten that Doris usually gets home early the last Friday of the month. She was home way early because of the short Friday and a cancellation, so we got almost the entire afternoon together!

Date: 2022-02-27 01:13 pm (UTC)Yay for painting! It's probably my favorite of the home improvement projects. Everything just looks so nice with a fresh coat of paint on it. We've had the roof redone this week. It's important, needed doing, but makes SUCH a mess, and it's noisy while it's happening.
Yay for passing 150 kudos!! I've *just* picked back up a fic I was working on back in 2019. It's just shy of 100 kudos now, but I'm hoping I'll cross that milestone if I can actually finish it this time. (I've got three more chapters ready. Just needs editing!)

Date: 2022-02-27 09:13 pm (UTC)Agreed on painting! The room looks so much better.
Fingers crossed, and let me know if it does hit the 100. I try to celebrate when a fic hits the 00 or the 50.

Date: 2022-02-27 09:47 pm (UTC)Pretty much, yeah. That part where they say, "Is there any reason you would be unable to serve?" or however it goes, and I said, "[Name] is my uncle," and they let me go home.
Fingers crossed!!

Date: 2022-03-01 03:02 am (UTC)Yay for donating blood! I did platelets last month and I'm glad I did but man it can be really tiring. And there was only one person there I recognized (plus of course harder to recognize with masks on).
Did you take my suggestion for getting Doris to look at the updated bedroom? ;)
So nice that you got to have an unexpected afternoon together!!

Date: 2022-03-02 01:28 pm (UTC)I imagine platelets would be tiring. And it's so long. Good of you to do it though.
Yeah, the jury duty was local - Maywood, which is next to OP. You've only been called once? I thought it was more than that. I've been "summoned" 5 times but only twice did I have to go in. They did say in this last summons that you can bring electronics. And they said their cafeteria is closed, so they said bring food, but no metal utensils.

Date: 2022-03-02 07:55 pm (UTC)The thing with platelets is you have to keep squeezing at regular intervals and when you're squeezing the same arm for literally 2 hours, it leaves my arm feeling very stiff. I do think I squeeze more often than I absolutely have to, but like... I'm usually watching a movie, I'm not going to pay attention to the clock and squeeze every 30 seconds or whatever. I'm just randomly squeezing. It would probably do my arm some good to, like, pay attention.
Yep, only once! Maybe possible I got a second summons but ended up not having to go? But I went one time, sat around in this big room all day, got called into an actual case, there were maybe 15 of us? They explained the case and asked if we personally knew any of the people involved, had any kind of relationship with the hospital, etc. It was just after my granny died and I was annoyed at the hospital because I thought they had done a crappy job taking care of her when she was there, but they didn't consider that enough reason to leave me out of the pool. However, it turned out they already had 11 jurors and only needed one more, so someone else got picked and we got sent back to the room. Cool that they allow electronics now! I remember getting puzzle books and some library books and stuff like that so I would have enough to keep myself occupied.

Date: 2022-03-02 11:23 pm (UTC)Interesting - just once. I guess that's good then. I spoke to a coworker who said she was called once for jury duty...27 years ago. She remembers it because she was very pregnant at the time, and they let her go home.
