The usual sort of post

And yeah, needless to say....the state of this country and the state of this world is horrible. This insane Supreme Court is only going to keep getting worse.
- For unknown reasons, our department head at work sent me (and I assume everyone?) an Amazon gift card. I bought music and a vegan cake cookbook
- Had some good political discussion on my Discord group. Like people disagreed respectfully, everyone kept it civil. (It's a Spartacus group but we often go off-topic)
- From the set of The Old Guard II, they posted some pics! Brought back a lot of my excitement for the movie. I wish so much that it was a TV show and not just two movies (at this point). I want more content! There are only so many times you can watch a movie that's less than 2 hours long.
- Friday I went to a pro-choice march in Chicago along with 2 others from the local Dems. It was good to go together.
- Another awesome game night happened on Saturday!
- And Friday I dropped some food off at the local food pantry, including plenty of fresh produce
- Therapy is good. Last week was just an initial consultation, and so the first actual session was a few days ago. I think this is going to be excellent
- I met with my financial planner today. All is well. Of course everyone who has investments has seen them take a hit, but I am still right now in a position where I am very, very unlikely to run out of money. (Each time we meet, we review targets and assumptions. If I end up at 100%, then I am good - unlikely to run out of money before I drop dead. I'm at 143% now, which means I have a very nice cushion. Of course it's lower...last time I was more like 160%)
- I re-read entries here from 10 years ago. It was an interesting time. I was in-between fandoms. Doris and I were close to adopting a baby, and this was also the time I was interviewing for the job I have now. Their selection process dragged on (and on), so many entries were about that.
- Anything in the fandom realm? I ordered a Cameo from Jake Stormoen (awesome actor from The Outpost) for another fan's birthday. Jake was SO touched that this other fan and I became friends through him. Like seriously he mentioned it in the Cameo, messaged me to say how awesome it was, and then 'liked' my reply to him. Awww...Also got a nice Cameo from Sachin. He said he likes my questions. I asked him about something he'd mentioned in an interview a while ago (turning down a role in Twilight Zone so he could stay on The 100).

Date: 2022-06-30 12:12 am (UTC)Really nice that people can disagree respectfully and be civil! Also fun that you can have lots of different convos with your fandom group!
I didn't know there was going to be an old guard II, that's fun! Like you said, too bad it'll be just two movies, but ya never know.
Glad you're enjoying therapy! I had to reschedule my next session so we're meeting tomorrow morning!
I've had several different financial people run my numbers (I inherited some financial folks as part of the package when Bruce passed away) and all of them have said that we should be all good, which is a huge relief. Really a relief to hear. And helps make me feel less anxious.
It must have been hard for Sachin to turn down a role. But I guess a job you have is better than a potential role, especially with as much as things change.

Date: 2022-06-30 10:46 pm (UTC)Glad to hear about your finances. My advisor was also....interesting this time. Keep in mind he's a white dude living in Wheaton. He asked me how I'm doing emotionally. He's never asked that before. And he made a point of saying he loved that I had money in Pax World's Women's Fund (the one that puts $ towards companies with better female rep), and said that he and his wife had given their daughter a name that they hoped would make her a CEO someday. He's also never said anything about that before.
