Actual Life

- Labor Day is awesome! Doris and I went out to eat and went grocery shopping and hung out finishing up The Orville. Perfect day. The Orville was so good.

- I'm especially glad that we got to eat at Handlebar Cafe. For whatever reason, they are not on any of the delivery apps. And I never feel like driving more than 15 minutes to a restaurant. But we did it, and everything at Handlebar is delicious

- Canvassed for Lauren Underwood on Saturday. It was 88 and there was no shade anywhere. I'm proud of how much I got done!

- Been sleeping great, no anxiety. In fact, I'm kinda bored in therapy....

- Lunch with parents yesterday and it was fun. They enjoyed my molasses blondies

Fandom!

- Gotta say again that the Facebook group for The 100 is seriously awesome. I love it. And someone posts this "Best Non-Romantic Duos" thing. They offered 9 choices, and every day, you can comment to eliminate one option. Sinclair and Raven have made it so far to top two. YES!!

- Other random The 100 stuff: I got 3 very nice fanfic comments this week. (One was especially good because it is from someone whose initial comments were very brief and a little odd. But her last 2 were nice and detailed and specific. Even referencing something about one of my previous fics that they liked).

- Been rewatching The 100 with my friend Mia. I get excited every time we hit a Triple....that is, an episode will all 3 of my favorites. They are all side characters so the Triple does not happen too often.

- And Alessandro has a new role on his IMDB page. He's in one ep of The Evil in Ohio. His role is Evil Attorney. *Sigh* He was also an Evil Attorney in Maid. Dude is 46 and Asian, and so many of his roles the past 10 years or so have been doctors and lawyers. I am happy that he's like always getting gigs. But I sure wish he'd land a main role. Or at least another significant side. Or at least something other than Asshole Attorney. (Uh, the doctors he's played have been nice?)

And the big news.....I am going to Pasadena in November for an anime con that Alessandro is going to!! So, I had pretty much decided not to go (for so many reasons. It's not nearby, I'm not an anime fan, what if he cancels....) But I mentioned it Sunday when my parents were over. Mom said "I'd love to go to Pasadena!" Mom and I have traveled together before and she is an awesome travel buddy. So now, if Alessandro cancels, well then mom and I get a fun weekend. My biggest reason for not going was "What if I get to my hotel room Sunday night and feel icky that I went all that way to get 5 minutes (or no minutes) with Alessandro." But that worry is gone now.

AND the con organizers told me via email that he MIGHT be on a second panel too. They said he'll be there both days, so I assume I just need to line up early for his autograph.

I've worked out what I want to ask/say to him....something to convey that on the 100 FB and Reddit groups, Sinclair is still very popular.

My wild fantasy is to go there cosplayed as Raven. (The character who was like a niece to Sinclair). But....

- I'm older than Alessandro
- Yeah let's have the 49 year old cosplay a character who is like 19
- One who was played by a gorgeous actress. I'm not
- Also....how do you make costumes? <g>
- Also, Raven wears a leg brace, and should someone who is not disabled do so?

But it would make a cool pic with Alessandro. Do I try it??

yay that you got to eat at handlebar! Do you think it's possible they're on delivery apps but only much closer to their area? I was surprised to learn that a Thai place I really like near my workplace is on delivery apps, but apparently I'm too far out of the delivery zone (which is weird as I've seen places MUCH further away on the apps).

Can you find out what the rules are for autographs/pics/etc? I know at some cons you have to specifically sign up for pics if you want pics and they don't allow it at the autograph signing (presumably to keep things moving along quickly?) I do think sometimes it's up to the actor to set up whatever rules they have (e.g. costs for autographs, if pics are allowed, costs if they are, etc). idk if it's possible to find that out in advance but it would suck if you spent the time and energy to get all dressed up and then find out he's not doing pictures (or not doing them til the next day or something). Also, would it be weird to cosplay a non-anime character at an anime convention? Like, would it be like showing up at a the 100 convention dressed as someone from battlestar galactica? I legit don't know the answer to this question, i've only been to general sci fi events before. If there are pics from previous cons that might help answer the question. I mean, it's not like you'd get kicked out or anything. When it comes to making costumes, a thrift store is a great place to start (and it being october, costume stores can also be helpful). Does she have a particular key clothing item that would make her recognizable? A few years ago my niece wanted to be a character from the descendants, a disney show featuring the kids of disney villains. She wanted to be a character and I wanted to dress up as another character, but nothing too crazy so I could be obviously the character in context with her but also not spend a bunch of money since I was really only going to wear it while taking her trick or treating. The character I was cosplaying wore purple pants and a jacket that had purple and pink elements to it. I had a jacket that was the right shape/style so I got purple and pink duct tape and stuck it on to match the style of the jacket that she wore, plus I just got some stretchy purple pants. So you might be able to find something at a thrift shop that would be the right style, maybe even the right color (based on what I remember of the show, i don't think you'd need to construct something elaborate). One thing to keep in mind - I don't know if she had any weapons, but cons often have rules about weapons needing to be 'peace bonded' if you're going to carry them around (basically making them impossible to remove from a sheath or otherwise clearly marked as not a real weapon). Just something to keep in mind. Maybe a wig if appropriate, but possible you could use a wig you already have!

wait, why wouldn't it be ok to wear a dress at the 100 con?

And yeah, if it's a relaxed group, you're probably fine doing a non-anime cosplay! Nice that her look seems pretty easy to put together (always nice when you can either go shopping in your own closet or find most stuff at a thrift store!). Also, you might be surprised - if you put in effort on a cosplay, at least at DragonCon, you would probably get lots of compliments and potentially people wanting to take a pic with you!

i mean, unless it was a formal ballgown, not sure how a dress at a con would be too much (and even then...) And yes, fingers crossed for sure that the anime con is cool and the vibe is fun! Did she have any special details? Like a walkie talkie or a scarf or something? I feel like hitting a detail is always a good way to drive home what you're doing when cosplaying :)

hahaha, that would be funny! The ponytail you bought, does it have an instructional video or something? I've seen ones that have like a long braided strand and you wrap it around to hide the clip itself. Usually you put your own hair up in a ponytail and then clip/wrap it on. if you want I can take a look at next game night and see if we can figure it out :)
