- Having a slow week at work (seems half the company is out for spring break), and taking a walk at lunchtime. The sky is blue, the clouds are fluffy and the sun is shining. It's nice!
- Also, lovely weekend complete with game night, Doris baking bread, and Doris staying at home on Sunday much later than usual (before she had to leave for her mom's). There was also a funny moment on Sunday. Normally when Doris is baking, I stay out of the kitchen. It's her realm. But she had to go to the grocery store to get a few ingredients. Meanwhile I had a few things that I wanted to cook. So the minute she left for the grocery store, I got into the kitchen and I slammed out my items (the eggplant, mushroom, walnut, and rice dish; the bean dish; the sauteed greens) as fast as I could. I was very proud of my productivity, finishing up just as she returned.
Fannish stuff:
- OMG I fell hard for Shadow and Bone! I watched S1 when it came out. Knowing that S2 was coming soon, I rewatched S1 recently since I'd forgotten a lot. I liked it on the rewatch. Good characters, settings, and costumes though I wanted that plot to move faster. Then S2 dropped. Not only was it much better pace-wise but we got an adorable gay couple who I completely fell for. S1 gave us Jesper, who we know is into men. S2 introduced a character called Wylan. The first time I saw him I was like 'could it be....will they....they gonna put him with Jesper?' And they did! I love them both, though Wylan honestly I can't take my eyes off of. (Side note: As I start reading fanfic, I can only marvel at how hard it is now to get any comments nowdays. There are fics that have 250 kudos and comments from only 2 different people. Just as a comparison, only one of my fics has more than 250 kudos, so that is a lot of kudos. And a lot of readers. But only 2 comments?? And sadly, it seems lots and lots of fics in this fandom are like that. Good kudos, but few if any comments)
- I thought I'd lost the lipstick I wore in Vancouver. Wasn't happy about it because I wanted the lipstick and all its associated good memories of that trip. But on Saturday - I found it!!
- Almost done with my Bobby Drake/Felix Gaeta fic. I am very happy with it. Just need to finish off the epilogue and it's done
- (And this last one will make no sense to anyone but me. Beata at my house, seeing the pic of Felix Gaeta on the fridge and saying "Sinclair!")

ETA: But for what it's worth: I don't believe it's going to get cancelled. I've seen smaller, indie shows with much smaller budgets and an okay but niche audience get cancelled after one season before anyone even heard about them. But Shadow & Bone? My coworkers have been talking about it. They are reading the books for the first time now to catch up. This 'Oh no, it might get cancelled!' is an artificial threat designed to drive more subscribers to the platform. They are going to be fine.

Date: 2023-04-01 01:11 am (UTC)And I understand being upset about a show you love taking the hit on account of the corporation choosing not to prioritize. It's happened to me before and it sucks. I still hate that whoever does the forecasting and reporting on these things is making fans feels responsible for their favorite thing's success. That is NOT your responsibility, or your fault, or mine, and trying to game the algorithm is not the answer. I know so many people who are jumping on for Season 2 that weren't watching it before, and if Netflix decides to kick it off in favor of whatever the YouTubers are hate-watching this week, that's not our fault either.
