- Found out Monday that I survived another layoff. Still got my job. So the job saga of 2023 is over for me!
- Had a day or two in the past week where it was warm enough to have the windows open. (But the last few days we've had shit thunderstorms resulting in trees coming down). Daffodils are coming up, and I've decided they are my favorite flower since they are always the first ones I see after winter.
- Election results in Chicago and Wisconsin!!
- Had a lovely moment with a librarian where she came up to me and said she was eager to meet me. Because I request so many books. (LOVED IT!!)
- My coop had an extra owner appreciation day on Saturday so we got 10% off
Fandom stuff:
- Still loving Shadow and Bone. Doing a rewatch of it with my friend Guggi. Also, I did a Tumblr post and it's gotten over 3,000 notes . That is unheard of for me. Had a few others with 200-400 notes each. My phone has been blowing up for days. Like I walk away for 20 minutes and have 15 Tumblr notifications. In the morning, I wake up to over 500. Been going on for days. Less fun aspects are that I've been messaged and followed by a few spam bots but whatever. Would that my fanfic ever blew up like this!
- Not sure if I'll write any S&B fic but I do have an outline for a fic that Guggi and I might write, and Wesper are happily in my pleasant thoughts all the time.
- But I am bracing myself too because most experts are saying the streaming #s aren't high enough for a renewal. Drives me mad. It's been top 7 - more or less - since it came out but that's not enough?? I guess they say the show is expensive to make. Well, I guess I have to content myself with the fact that my ship, Jesper/Wylan got 8 episodes together and more total camera time than my other ships in other fandoms like Mackson in The 100 or Barca/Pietros in Spartacus.
- Also, funny thing. Got a comment on ffnet on my X-men/BSG fic. I was elated. Then I replied. Then from the commenter's reply, I realized they just want someone to play a BSG game with them. (LOL my life)

Date: 2023-04-06 02:07 am (UTC)I really want to get some flowers but I keep trying to make myself wait because we're still in that weird weather time (plus with the crazy thunderstorms/wind I don't want to risk them getting destroyed).
Last night I was in bed and heard Rollin yell "YES!" and I was like 'what are you yelling about?' and he said "Wisconsin!!"
I so so so love that the librarian was eager to meet you because of your book requests!!! THat's so awesome!!!
You would think that being in the top 10 of the streamed stuff would be enough to keep a show on the air?! i mean, sure, maybe it's expensive to make, but don't they factor that kind of thing in? I mean if it was like 50 on the list of streamed things I could get why they'd decide not to renew, but that just seems like planned obsolescence. Maybe they could take a page from the BSG cheapness plan and find a way to make it less expensive to film?
Hilarious about the person wanting someone to play a BSG game with them! Ha! I guess that's one way to find people who are into it!

Date: 2023-04-06 03:48 pm (UTC)Please tell Rollin that I love him for that. I mean seriously, I love that he cares about this stuff!
I wish they could get creative and find a way to save money on Shadow and Bone. I love the look if it, it's clearly pricey but The Outpost was shot on a shoestring budget and I loved it.

I am a little baffled that, if they knew they were potentially in trouble, they wouldn't come up with some ways to save some money to save the show. But maybe it's just not doable if you want to keep the look/feel consistent.

Yeah, IDK. They spent a ton on S1 so probably felt they needed to do the same with S2. Netflix is so erratic, they prolly figured 50-50 as to whether or not they'd get a renewal no matter what they did....

Date: 2023-04-07 10:59 pm (UTC)Gah, I keep meaning to get caught up, and I keep getting stuck doing Other Things. (Some of which you know about, it's just a constant mashup of random crap, y'know?) I still haven't finished my taxes.
I truly do not understand Netflix's logic for when to give their original material the green light versus not. Between cancelling popular, well-reviewed shows, continuing to stack their standup specials with transphobic comedians, and driving up prices, I sometimes wonder if they're actively trying to drive people AWAY from the platform.
