Gratitude/life/etc

- Well, I will start with a sad one. A former coworker texted me to say that another former coworker, Julissa, had passed away. She was only 47. She had cancer 10 years ago and apparently it came back. So sad. I went to the visitation yesterday and although it was a sad occasion obviously, I saw many former coworkers, many of which I hadn't seen in years and years. So that was good. And at least it reminded us to cherish every moment.
- A week ago I had...my first colonoscopy! The headlines - overall it wasn't as terrible as I'd thought it would be. And of course I'd thought the worst part would be not eating for 24 hours, but as everyone warned me, that's not it since you will lose your appetite. The hard part is getting that horrible drink down and finishing all of it. I'll write these details out for my own reference too, but the appointment was Friday at 8:15am. Thursday at 8:00am I had my final meal. 3 hours after that you start the icky drink. Took me literally till 8pm to finish it. It's gross but it does kill any hunger you might have. And then other than the icky drink, I had broth (which Doris made for me, awwww), tea, 1 ginger ale, and 2 pop sickles (which you can have as long as they are not red or purple). Oh, and the results were normal, fine. The night before the colonoscopy, I slept fine but the night after it, I was out like a light and into a very nice, deep sleep.
- Well, while we are on health, I'll also add that Doris had a check-up and while we are waiting for blood work results, it seems so far that everything is great. She's been having some odd digestive stuff but the doc isn't worried.
- Nice moment at the grocery store. I shop at a local co-op. Many years ago I did some volunteer work. On my last trip there, the staffer Jen said she still remembered what I did and that it was a huge help. That is awesome.
- Last Saturday, Doris and I saw Barbie and went out for ice cream. Like an actual date! Loved the movie.
- Working through the book "12 Weeks to a Sharper You", one section has questions to reflect on. One was "what do you love about your life?" I asked Doris and she had having a wonderful wife!
- A Little Free Library had a book that was on my "to read" list! ("Unbound" by Tarana Burke)
- For Sachin's birthday, I made a donation to an nonprofit he supports and tagged him. He retweeted it and IG-ed it. Along with the words "I want everyone to know that I met Marianne years ago at a convention, and she has not ceased to be one of the best and one of my favorite people. Thank you Marianne for all you've done and all you continue to do. (heart emoji)"
Fandom stuff! (which I guess the one right above could go here):
- Someone asked if they can write a spin-off of one of my fics!!
- And someone else asked me to write a variation of another fic of mine. I did so, and when I posted it, I got 18 new kudos!! (But so far the only person who left another comment was the requestor)
- Started watching Attack on Titan based on an interaction with another fanfic writer. So, this is not my usual....thing. But it's good? I think. Yeah, I think I like the show a lot actually maybe.

Date: 2023-08-05 08:45 pm (UTC)Great news about your and Doris's health! Yay!
It was so sweet of Jen to tell you she remembers what a help you were. Sometimes when you do volunteer work, places aren't so great at being like 'hey, that really made a big difference for us' so really nice to hear it!
So sweet that you and Doris had a date! Awww! And so sweet of her to think of her wonderful wife. I'm still a Dorimar stan <3
Ooo has someone ever written a spin off of one of your fanfics before? How fun! And cool to get kudos for your variation fic!
For some reason I thought attack on titan was a movie, I didn't realize it was a show. Do you like it enough that you think you might eventually write some fanfic? :)
Side note: sometimes on instagram I see little clips of movies/shows, and I saw one where Alessandro was an attorney for some guy! He made some comment to his client in the clip and I was like HEY I KNOW HIM!

Date: 2023-08-06 12:43 am (UTC)Someone did write a spinoff of my X-men FOH fic. I think that might be the only spinoff someone's done? Twice I've had people make fanart for my fics.
I'm not sure if I'll just be a casual fan of Attack on Titan or a more devoted one. I guess we will see. :)
Ah, Alessandro as a lawyer! I know he's been a lawyer twice recently, once in Maid and once in Devil in Ohio. Sadly both lawyers were jerks. :)

Date: 2023-08-07 03:24 am (UTC)Yay also on your date! And how great was the Barbie movie?? I need to watch it like four more times to truly appreciate it, I think.

Date: 2023-08-07 11:42 pm (UTC)Agreed, Barbie was great. I think it might be the most feminist movie ever to hit the silver screen and get significant viewership.

Date: 2023-08-08 03:53 pm (UTC)That sounds nice! The gray out beforehand was weird too. But nah, I just had boring stress dreams about checking my work email. So. Not that weird, but not fun.
It's SO good! I connected with Ken on a spiritual level. I want everything with fringe on it now.
