Miscellaneous stuff and a question

I love Netflix. Got my first movie yesterday and already have like 40 films on my queue. And it's just so much fun to go through and rate movies. Why on earth did I wait so long to do this?? It's almost as much fun as Paperbackswap.com!
Tomorrow and Sunday I'm taking an advanced self-defense class. I took the basic class a few years ago and loved it, even though it was hard. I know this class will be even harder but I can do it. I just hope I don't pull a glute muscle like I did last time - it was sore for months, literally.
Doris's birthday is in early December and I'm trying to decide what to get her. I think she likes gadgets. Technical things. She got me a GPS for my birthday and I can tell she loves it too. I'm trying to think of some ideas for a techie sort of gift for her.

Date: 2007-11-07 07:04 pm (UTC)well IMO Ipods are crap. other mp3 player brands are better. I've had an IRiver for about 5 years and I love it.
Maybe you could get her some flash drives. I'm crazy for memory.

Date: 2007-10-20 08:01 am (UTC)I haven't taken a self-defence class since high school. It'd probably be a good idea to update, especially since "run really fast" is no longer one of my available options.

Date: 2007-10-20 08:33 pm (UTC)Our last year at school didn't have gym classes scheduled (except for those taking it as a formal subject) - instead we spent Friday morning doing "something active".
The was a list of ten or so available activities one could sign up for each term - I've no idea why I chose them, but I took rock-climbing, wind-surfing and self-defence.
It's well past time I took a refresher, but I've never hit anyone in my life (caveat : that I remember, but I'm told I was a placid toddler) and the very thought makes me queasy.

Date: 2007-10-20 12:09 pm (UTC)But if Doris would like something a bit less techie, but still sexy in a gadget way, I like the look of these new Leatherman tools (http://www.leatherman.com/products/tools/skeletool-CX/default.asp).
Finally, check out BoingBoing's gadget blog (http://gadgets.boingboing.net/) for umpteen other suggestions. :-)

Date: 2007-10-20 03:53 pm (UTC)Gadgets, gadgets...my first thought was "get some cool spy gadgets!" They have some really fun stuff out there like videocamera pens, but I don't know how practical any of that would be. What about something like a telescope with a book on astronomy to put it to use?
