Something great happened! And something not-great happened!
First, the great
Yesterday evening was the big annual fundraising dinner for an organization I volunteer with. We provide business clothing to low-income women who need professional clothing. During the dinner, the executive director took the stage and she announced the two volunteers of the year. I was one of them! I was floored. A lot of my coworkers were in the audience so that made it even more special. I must say I am surprised that I won it...there are plenty of people who volunteer as much as or more than I do. I got a cool trophy.
Now, the not-great
My performance at work lately has sucked. That’s a bit harsh, but I haven’t been doing well at work. I’ve turned in reports with errors on them. I have been slap-dashing it lately; been so intent on getting things done that I’m not focused enough on getting them right. I’m disappointed in myself and worried about my next performance review. I guess I need to take this as time to turn it around, go more slowly and thoroughly, and get more into the details. It’s never too late to start over and improve.

Date: 2008-10-22 08:23 pm (UTC)Can I ask you a question on a totally-unrelated note? You're my fashion and beauty expert. I noticed that some of my shoes look a tad scuffed. How do you shine your shoes? Do you take them somewhere or do you use one of those kits?

Date: 2008-10-22 09:22 pm (UTC)I haven't shined shoes in a long time, but when I did, it was just with a little tin of polish and an old rag (towel or old tshirt). What I did was just to rub the polish on well, wait a little while, then buff it back off with a clean cloth. If you need a high shine polish on top of that, you can get a shine-polish sponge. Or, in a pinch, use vaseline or similar product (got nasty tasting clear lipbalm?). I used to set them up sort of assembly line, so by the time I finished putting polish on the last pair, the first were ready to buff.
