Forgive me since this is a little similar to a post I did a few months ago…

I first became a fan of X-men 10 years ago and I’ve really been wanting to do something to mark this milestone. I mean, this is a major anniversary and I still love X-men as much as I did 10 years ago when I dragged my friend [livejournal.com profile] nytshd3 to see the movie with me again for the 4th time. (The movie is what got me into it, but now I like XTAS the best of all forms of X-men.)

Here’s the problem – I can’t figure out how to celebrate it. None of my friends in real life are into X-men. Well, [livejournal.com profile] nytshd3 is kinda but there are limits to even her patience and I can’t see a point in having, say, an X-men themed party or viewing of XTAS or the movies if I’m the only one who’s into it. I need to be able to celebrate in cyberspace. And I need ideas.

So, does anyone have any ideas? The only one I have off the top of my head is: ask people for X-men fanfic recommendations, take a day off work so I can read most of the recs, and post a link to my own fanfics. I can also try to write a short one but anyone who knows me know that fics I write tend to be lengthy (and my life is so busy now that I can’t commit to writing a longer fic now). Any other ideas on how to celebrate online?

i vote the fic idea-any forms of it, reading or writing. :)

Wow, has it been 10 years since the movie came out?! I remember watching XTAS as a kid and pretending to be Rogue. I still love it just the same. :D

XTAS is so wonderful.

What did you think of the movie when it came out?

I agree, it is wonderful!

I remember being so so so excited! My husband (then he was just my boyfriend) went to see it opening night. :D And despite the obvious changes they made to the storyline, it was and still is a good movie. The only character I was never happy with was Rogue, she was always my favorite X-Men and I didn't like that her awesomeness and power was never really shown.

I like the movies too. I just regard them as an AU from the canon. And one thing I love about them are the costumes - seriously. I don't care for the outfits in XTAS (in fact, I'd even go so far as to say that the X-men look like dorks in XTAS), so I feel the team looks better in the movies.

Yes, that is how I think of them too. and the costumes were completely awesome!

I never payed attention to the costumes in XTAS when I was a kid and now watching them, my thoughts were like "wow, you can definitely tell this was the 90s!" all that yellow spandex. XD

Although I gotta say that regardless of what decade it was made in, most of the X-men in XTAS are dressed like dorks.

Reading and writing fic is always good. I would totally rec you a bunch of shit, if you have firefox (it's the only way I can think of to do this shit) I can just give you my whole favorites folder (there's... a lot :P)

Watch your favorite episodes, the movies, re-read some comics you like, write up a big post about how much you love it and why it's so special for you. Definitely take a day (or two) off.

That's a great idea! I keep saying how much I love it but I don't usually say why. I'd love to write a post explaining why I like it so much.

aim viewing party. One of my PR friends did this for her b-day. Everyone watches the movie while on Aim and comments to each other.

Wow, interesting idea! I've never used aim (no big surprise, I am the last person on your f-list to hear about or use any new technologies). Must explore this!

Have you used it?

I'm sorry for some reason I thought I answered this.

Mostly I use aim to keep up with fellow fans/friends and to plot fic.

I'm really intrigued. Is it easy to use? Expensive?

it's easy, I only have IM, but it's Aim and I know the IM download is free.

Not online, but: Are there any sort of X-Men souvenirs you might want? Like a special poster of Remy and Rogue or Storm, or an expensive graphic novel, or a super-deluxe box set you don't have? If so, maybe you could buy yourself a special X-Men treat and then spend time enjoying it. Or, maybe you could do something else that reminds you of the X-men

Online, I think an online viewing party would be good; there will certainly be like-minded fans who will enjoy watching and commenting with you! :)

That's a great idea too. I hadn't thought of souvenirs. Hmmmm. I honestly can't think of any that I want. Maybe it's because ever since I prepared for my big move last year, I've been less into 'things' even if it's something that symbolizes something I love.

You know, I'm thinking now that what I like best about X-men is talking about it with other people, and reading and writing fanfic.

So thank you - I think your comment helped me think through what it is I really want.

I'm in for the viewing party!

Although an icon-test would be cool too. I do love making icons.

I love icons too but I wouldn't know where to start in terms of making them. I guess I could ask people to make me icons.

i'm totally open to an x-men party just by the way :) hey, we could even make it an x-men/game night party... maybe start a little earlier and invite folks who would like to watch x-men, watch some episodes, etc, then maybe when we play games we could use the x-men figures from the monopoly game as our game pieces no matter what game we played? just a thought. also i bet it would be easy to find all kinds of x-men party supplies ;)

Really, you wouldn't mind? Then maybe we can do this! Hmmmm...

I am making a list of suggestions I got and then will figure out what to do.

Thank you.
