1. This has been a good 3 days for fanfic. I got 3 reviews from 2 different people and the reviews were excellent and detailed. Yes! Also, someone on ffnet favorited my story there (which is the only indication I've gotten from ffnet that anyone at all is reading it off there)

2. New seasons of Supergirl, Batwoman, and the other CW shows are starting. Though we have to wait till January for Legends, boo. :(

3. I bought a new dress for a conference I have to go to next week. I like it. I'm wearing it to work tomorrow.

1. Yay, I wrote more fanfic! My fic writing has been going in fits and spurts, but that's fine with me. I'll go 7 days without writing anything and then get inspired. It works for the format of my fic in which each chapter stands alone; it's basically different glimpses at my OTP's life together. Total words now: 24,000.

2. I mentioned making split pea soup in the Instapot last entry. All I can say is that Doris and I have done an impressive amount of cooking this weekend. Potatoes in the air fryer (which is great because it gets them crispy without using oil). Pumpkin pie. Spaghetti squash. And sauteed greens. Many of the items were from our local CSA (community supported agriculture): the pumpkin, the spaghetti squash, the greens, and some of the items used in the split pea soup.

3. The weather has been lovely. And 6 days till Game Night!

1. A nice fandom moment! With some help, I made a page for my OTP on shipping.fandom.com. I tweeted that I did so, and one person retweeted it saying the page is "beautiful" and the tweet got 3 likes. EDIT - 6 likes now, 2 reblogs and 2 very nice comments!! Woo! (Damn tho, if only my fanfic got all this, LOL)

2. It's another Friday and I'm working from home. The sun came out and it's cool and really nice out. I finally unpacked the Instapot my sister gave me and made split pea soup.

3. Some good stuff happened at work this week. An evening class ended early (YES!) and a dinner that I hadn't wanted to go to turned out great.

1. Doris and I spent most of the weekend at an AirBnB that's near 3 big state parks. The weather wasn't the best and the trails were muddy but we still had a great time. Still did a ton of hiking, and miraculously our feet never got wet. We visited Buffalo Rock and Matthiason State Parks which we'd never been to before. Tons of gorgeous views.

2. The Summit/meeting I mentioned in my last post went really, really well. It was fun. And I was told that I was an "amazing" host.

3. Fanfic writing is still just flowing! I'm at 22,000 words and still have more ideas, and am still really loving the writing. The would-be beta tester who offered last week sadly hasn't come through. But I did post chapter 6 today and get a nice comment on it. (From someone who has commented before, but that's fine with me. I'll take any comment),

I must say it's been a good Monday.

1. On Wednesday, at work, our partners (vendors) are coming in for an annual meeting that I plan. My team met today. We're in good shape. And I really, really like most or all of the people who are coming in so I'm looking forward to the meeting and the dinner.

2. Some nice person on Tumblr offered to beta test for me! She hasn't done it yet but we've been messaging and she seems super-cool.

3. Last weekend was nice. We went to my in-laws to celebrate my father in law's bday. Sometimes I'm bored when I'm there. But we all (my brother in law, his girlfriend, her son, my nephew, etc) had a spirited discussion about politics over wine and it was actually a blast.

1. Someone who I gave some advice to a while ago told me she took it, and it was useful. (She's Patty, the person I go to for massages. We'd talked about books and I'd told her that if I start a book that doesn't interest me, I abandon it. She told me she did that once since then and felt great about it)

2. Doris and I are going on Friday to an AirBnB that Eric stayed at in Wisconsin and he said it's very nice.

3. What else? I'm reading a scary and horrible book about stalking and I am so grateful that this hasn't happened to me.

1. I was able to switch to the convention rate for my hotel room for The 100 con I'm going to in April. (Long story short, when I booked my ticket to the con, the hotel room block was sold out. I debated what to do, decided I didn't want to risk not getting a room at the official hotel, so I booked a room at the regular rate, which was almost double. But today I saw their tweet where they said they made the room block bigger, I called the hotel, and they switched me to the rate!!)

2. And I feel slightly better regarding one aspect of fanfic. I looked through some other 100 fanfics. The ones with a lot of reviews tend to be AUs, Harry Potter crossovers, Hunger Games crossovers, etc. And there are plenty of fics like mine that don't have many reviews. So I feel a twinge better?

3. Okay let's do a non-100 one. A political candidate who I'm volunteering for already got enough signatures to get her onto the ballot. That's good.

Ooops. It's been way too long since I've posted.

1. I'm still in fandom heaven (mostly), which is why I haven't posted much. I'm all caught up with the show, enjoying my canon couple, enjoying the show in general. Now that I'm caught up I've been delving more into Reddit, finding blooper reels on YouTube, etc etc. And my writing is going well - I have over 12,000 words on my fic. Only one review, but as long as I enjoy the writing, I'll keep doing it.

2. We have a 3 day weekend! Actually 3.5, because I got the afternoon off and Doris came home from work early yesterday. No big plans though. Both our mothers' birthdays are around this time, so we're taking my mom out today and Doris's tomorrow.

3. Great weather, and my weight has been lower than I'd expect.

These will sound very familiar to other 3 Things lists. My life just keeps repeating the same stuff. :)

1. The weekend is here and the weather is gorgeous! I walked home from the el and it was so nice out with a great, cool breeze

2. Game night tomorrow!

3. Still loving The 100 and loving my new fanfic that I just posted Chpt 1 of yesterday.

But....No reviews. Only 1 kudo right now. I had 2 folks look at it before posting and they both basically said "it's great, post it!". One did give me an excellent suggestion for how to improve it. But overall, it's so hard because I love the story and I so much want other people to tell me they like it and to keep going. I am going to try to be philosophical about this...

- Maybe it's a reminder that we simply don't get what we want in life that often. I want to be showered with praise - or even tossed a bone - for my writing, and I guess I just need a reminder that life doesn't always go our way.

- And it's a good reminder to write for the right reasons. I can definitely say to myself that if I'm not enjoying it, I should stop writing because I haven't been able to write for feedback for a long, long time. (I would if I could, but feedback is so rare - at least for me - now).

- And I should add that the pairing that I focus on...most The 100 fans say "oh I love them", but they are very minor characters too, so the pool of people even willing to read this is small.

1. I'm at 7,900 words with my fanfic! Just debating when to post it. I don't have a formal beta, but my friend who is into the 100 read it and said it was really good and she liked my writing style. (And she offered an idea for improvement too)

2. Weekend with Karen here was fun. The architecture boat tour at dusk was excellent, and we had great weather.

3. Well it's only Tuesday but I can already be happy for the fact that Doris is off this weekend and it's game night on Saturday!

1. My friend Karen is coming into town for the weekend and we have a whole bunch of fun stuff planned!

2. My weight was awesome at today's weigh-in

3. I'm writing more The 100 fanfic. I have 4,000 words done. Just not sure when to post it since I am still not caught up with the show though. Unlike my last The 100 fanfic, this one centers around my new OTP who I am still so excited about. I am so happy to be writing and that the words are flowing! I just wish I had a beta.

1. It's Sunday evening, and this weekend has passed in a blur. But a good blur. Doris and I got to go to a good restaurant yesterday (Urban Breakroom), and I saw my friend Kris today. (I mean other things happened too but that's the highlight)

2. Doris left the burner on the oven on, and then went to her mom's (while I was at Kris). Thank goodness the house didn't burn down, the cat didn't die, and all was ok. I'm drinking a glass of wine.

3. Still loving The 100, still loving my OTP. I'm writing notes for a fanfic. I'm not going to sit down and write it till I'm caught up with the show - I still have like 20 eps to go. But writing the notes and having the plot bunnies is fun.

1. I feel much better than I did a couple days ago. Still a bit under the weather.

2. And my obsession level with The 100 is still at Unhealthy/Uh-oh. Because obsessed is what I am. But hey, I am told that my OTP survives Season 6! (The last episode of which just aired. I still got a couple weeks to go before I catch up at this rate). Season 7 will be the last, so they just gotta survive 13 more episodes! :) I'm still in Season 5, and the ep I just saw had some great, great moments with my OTP.

3. I'm booking a massage for Friday. I hope I never take for granted that I have the financial ability to do so.

First of all, ugh.

1. I'm sick - with either an allergy attack or a cold. I have a sore throat and just feel weird, my energy is way lower and I have a low-key headache.

2. I have a tedious project for work, due Thursday, and I am hitting roadblocks on it.

3. Fortunately I was warned that this was coming, but with my current obsession  - The 100 - I saw the episode where a favorite character dies, and it was hard to take. Even though I knew it was coming. That's why I refer to this stuff as 'obsessions' as often as I say 'fandom'. I just get wound up in it.

Well, okay, here's some of the good stuff to counter it.

1. Let's be grateful again for having a job that provides paid time off

2. I think I need to table this for today and hit it again when I have more energy and no headache...I have tomorrow, Wednesday, and maybe I can even ask for 1 more day to work on it. I feel guilty at the thought of putting something off, but maybe that really is best now. I might do a lot better on this when I'm not sick, might be able to figure out how to get around the roadblocks.

3. As bad as that was with The 100, I am still loving the new OTP I'm shipping. The episode I just saw had some brief but awesome moments between them

1. I got an actual review of my fanfic! Someone told me they love it and asked me to keep writing!

2. We shockingly have nice weather now. Like 68 degrees. I'm working from home and have the windows open.

3. And back to fanfic, it's good to be writing again. I'm at 5,600 words. I also don't mind admitting that this fanfic is not my best work. It's more like 'I have a ton of energy over The 100 so I'm gonna throw words on the page and see what happens.' There are so many characters, so many moments, so much to do with this fandom! I could see myself writing a ton (and hopefully later fics will be more thoughtful and better). Part of the problem is that I'm still not caught up; I have more than 2 seasons of material to watch. I feel that really good writing requires some distance and thoughtfulness, and I know I'm being a bit sloppy. But I'm ok with that. I have another plot bunny for another pairing, which I think I will write.

1. Doris and I got a decent amount of time to watch TV and hang out this weekend. She still loved The 100 (she's catching up to where I am). And we went to a restaurant we hadn't been to before and it was great. We also had a ton of arugula from our CSA and Doris had the idea of make arugula pizza. It was really good.

2. Scrabble with Ann today!

3. Still no actual reviews of my fanfic but someone bookmarked it. Someone's reading it! (And 5 have liked my posts of Tumblr promoting it).

1. When I decide to write fanfic, I really decide to write. My new fic is almost done; I've written 5,200 words yesterday and today. I posted Chapter One a few hours ago. It's good to be writing again.

2. I meant it when I said that I was going to write for fun and enjoyment, and I was ok if I didn't get any comments or feedback. So far two folks liked my Tumblr post with the fic, and truly that's more than I thought I'd get.

3. Also, yesterday Doris unexpectedly worked late, so writing kept me company.

1. Yay, I'm writing again! It's for The 100, and it's for a pairing that....was a little popular but now isn't so much as far as I can tell. Before I sat down to write, I said the magic words to myself: "You might never get any feedback at all on this fic, so if you're writing for praise, DON'T!" I decided that no, I actually wanted to write this fic even if I don't get any reviews. And I am very happy with Chapter 1!

2. I use this one a lot, but I got to work from home today. It's such a great thing. Ran a couple errands.

3. It's only Tuesday so the weekend is a way's away - but I can start looking forward to it anyway. I get to see Ann on Sunday. On Saturday, Doris and I were going to go to the botannic gardens but I don't know....it's supposed to be 90 and humid. I think I'll likely ask her if we can plan it for another day unless the forecast changes.

1. It's been announced that the next season of Agents of SHIELD (season 7) will be the last. It's sad, but most fans saw this coming. Plus this is the show that has struggled to get renewed each season since season 2. So we'll get 13 more episodes, and the writers have said they are going to end it on their terms. I hope they bring it to a satisfying conclusion and a reasonably happy one for the characters.

2. Here's one from work. I was asked to facilitate the quarterly webcast that our LGBT employee network has. It was a full day commitment; we start with rehearsals 5 hours before the webcast starts. It went really well; I got a lot of pats on the back. I even went to the reception afterwards and that was fun. Someone brought me a glass of wine.

3. It's good getting to work from home during this heat wave, and it's supposed to end tomorrow

1. Com Ed has this thing where they ask you to reduce your energy usage on a specific date and time (say, Monday, from 1pm-6pm). And if you use less than you typically use, you get a refund. We've done that twice recently and both times got a nice refund. The main thing I did was turn the temperature up (so we'd use less air conditioning)

2. Speaking of air conditioning, it's hot as hell - and the next 3 days are supposed to be terrible. I guess I am very lucky that I had last Friday off and was able to take my trip to Andersonville that day. It was in the 70s and it's looking like that was the last day for a while with good weather....

3. Nothing else is grabbing me, so I'll be glad for Doris!
