1. Yesterday (Friday) was a rare day in which something wonderful happened. I had the day off, Doris was up out of bed earlier than usual, and the weather was good. So we went for a walk! It was just so nice to spend time together like that

2. The rest of my day off was good too. Had lunch with a former coworker (Julissa) and got a message and a manicure. Got caught up on my shows (Star Trek, Brooklyn 99, The Orville, Drag Race)

3. And now it's Saturday morning. We're doing dinner with Chris and Heather tonight at a vegan restaurant I haven't tried yet

1. Marie Newman's campaign contacted me as there's an opportunity to do some volunteering in the format of data entry. YES! Usually when campaigns ask for volunteers they want you to canvas or phone bank (ugh). I am so happy to get to do some office work. I'm taking a day off work so I can help them.

2. In fact, let's make this a separate item: I have enough PTO days that I can do stuff like this regularly

3. I really like the mayor of South Bend, IN who is running for President (Pete Buttigieg)

1. Today I got to meet a young man who graduated from college due to the programs we work on. He was so awesome! I gifted him with some books and he really appreciated them; said he loves to read.

2. I had a work trip to DC earlier this week and all went well.

3. The cat slept on top of me last night (perhaps moreso than usual due to my having been gone 2 nights)

I think my 3 things will just be the fact that I got to spend so much time with Doris this weekend. This was the first Saturday since December that she's had off. And she always finishes work early on the last Friday of the month. So we basically got from Friday at 4pm through the whole weekend together. We went to a new restaurant (No Bones Beach Club) which was great. It was just so nice to have time together.

Two days in a row? Let's do this!

1. I finally got Franz Ferdinand's latest CD and it's excellent. There are still some good bands out there!

2. Tomorrow I get to meet Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema! She's coming to the headquarters of the company I work for, and I've been tapped to talk to her about our education programs. She's the US's first openly LGBT Senator, if you didn't know

3. Speaking of LGBT politicians, the Chicago mayoral election is Tuesday and most polls indicate that Lori Lightfoot will win. She will be the first African-American female mayor of Chicago, and she will be the first openly LGBT mayor of as large a US city as Chicago. If she doesn't win, her opponent is also an African-American woman so that's good too

4. I'll do 4 today since I've skipped so many days. Yesterday I co-hosted a fundraiser for Marie Newman who is running for Congress. She is awesome and I hope she wins.

I'll make it 4 since I haven't posted for a while

1. I'm still getting kudos on my old Star Trek Discovery fanfics. I'm sure this is largely due to the fact that new episodes have been airing, but it's still nice. Wouldn't mind getting an actual review along with all the kudos, but whatever.

2. Darra had her annual vet visit and all was well. The veterinary office often has 'associate' vets (like not the main vet who owns the practice) and I haven't liked many of them, but this associate was good

3. "Discovered" a new vegan restaurant and it's so good! It's 30 minutes away, which isn't great but it's closer than a lot of the others. Most of the others are Northwest of where I live, but this one interestingly is in a different direction (way south)

4. Speaking of fanfic as I was with #1, it's been almost 20 years since I got into X-men, and guess what? I crazily still love the characters. Still think of the animated series, still think of story ideas (which I never write out anymore). That is a good fandom to stay with me for so long!

I do still think of gratitude in my head even if I don't write it here!

1. I got a new pair of shoes. They're really not cute or stylish. Maybe just a bit. But they're ok enough looking to wear to the office and really comfortable. Had no trouble standing and walking in them a lot.

2. Yesterday (Friday) was great. I have a coworker who is allergic to wheat and dairy. She does eat meat but she was willing to check out a vegan restaurant that had gluten free options, with me. She loved it! I'd never been there before either. We both really liked it and said we'd go back.

3. And yesterday and today the sun is/was out, there's a cool breeze but it feels like spring is coming. I walked home from the el on Friday (wearing my new shoes)

On "bittersweet" side, my 100 year-old Great Aunt just died. She was the las of my Grandma's siblings. Last time I saw her, she said she hoped God would take her soon. She was clearly feeling done with life. So although death is always sad, I know it's what she wanted.

1. Had an all-day meeting at work today and...it was great! I made good contributions to it (which I think my boss noticed)

2. And despite leaving later than usual, the el was not that crowded

3. The cat was extra-affectionate yesterday when I worked from home. So I gave her extra treats.

I swear I do try to keep a mental list of gratitude items, even though I haven't been writing them here very often! Okay, just the ones that come to mind....

1. Double date night tomorrow with Ann and Rollin - and Captain Marvel!

2. On both the flights I took this week, the middle seat was empty

3. Good meet and greet of the local candidates in Oak Park for the April elections

1. The cat actually plays with a toy I bought her. (A tunnel). That's a first!

2. Had some spare time yesterday so I did some de-cluttering. Given how much I love doing it, it's odd that i don't do it more often. On the other hand, there's not much clutter in the house to begin with

3. At work today we get to go home early since it's annual employee appreciation day!

1. I do spend too much time posting about TV. But Brooklyn Nine-Nine was renewed for Season 7 today!

2. And Star Trek Discovery gets a Season 3!

3. What the heck, let's keep this TV-related. I started watching the reboot of One Day at a Time and it's pretty good. I heard it won't get  renewed unless its ratings go up, so I'm trying to not get too attached to it

1. Doris took a moment to text me to say that she loved the stir fry I'd made

2. My boss asked me to coach a coworker to improve her presentation skills. She said that she wanted her to be more "polished and confident - like you!" when presenting.

3. Lunch with Eric yesterday for his birthday (though sadly I asked him what else he'd done to celebrate his b-day and it sounds like, other than his boss making cupcakes, not much!)

I really do enjoy doing my 3 Things list, even if often I'm doing it just in my head!

1. This past week I was on 4 planes in 3 days, and all went well. I did have to run through the airport in Charlotte to make my connection on my way home, but I made it. It sure made me glad for working out.

2. Doris was at a (local) conference this week, so she came home early on Thursday and Friday. That was awesome!!

3. And today as part of the conference, I'm having lunch with Doris's employees. I've never been to this place but it's a Mexican restaurant that has a separate vegan menu. YES!

4. At my weekly weigh-in this week, my weight was nice and low

5. Dang there are so many good TV shows. Oh, and I heard they began filming Season 7 of Agents of SHIELD

6. I had time on day 2 of the conference I was at and I got a great massage.

Okay, I could go on and on since I skipped so many days, but I'll end it here for now

1. Doris and her staff liked the heart-shaped pizza  and cookie I sent to them for V-day!

2. I was asked to work on a fundraiser for Marie Newman, who is running for the US House. Glad to do it!

3. How did TV get to be so good? New Star Trek, Brooklyn 99, and the Orville tonight. I'll watch Star Trek live, and the others later. Mostly because Star Trek starts earlier than the others.

I swear someday I'll get into some semblance of doing these every other day. Or most days/week.

1. Grocery shopping during my lunch break (I worked from home today) at my coop, they asked me if I'd consider serving on the board. I told them I can't as I'm too busy with the local Dems but it was very nice that they thought of me.

2. I've read several times that civic engagement in the US is way down. I hardly know anyone who volunteers regularly or is otherwise civically-engaged (outside of the people I know through the Dems, the food pantry, the coop, or the LGBT group....) So I am thankful that despite being an introvert, I am fairly involved locally and that I've found ways to do it without having to get too far outside introverted-ness.

3. Lunch on Sunday with Chris and Heather was a lot of fun! I am so grateful that they're always willing to go to a vegan restaurant even though they aren't vegans. (And....they loved the place!)

Ooops. How did I let so many days go by?

1. Nothing is jumping to mind. So how about being grateful for steadiness. My life isn't exciting but it is pretty calm and steady, which I like

2. Game night in 4 days!

3. And on Sunday we're doing lunch with Chris and Heather at a restaurant we love

1. The weather is terrible today - with the wind-chill, it's 45 below. I of course am working from home today. Doris insisted on going in, kissed me goodbye, and headed out. I was SO happy when 20 minutes later, I heard the alarm turn off. She had returned! Same thing happened Monday when it was snowing heavily. Two work days at home with Doris. Paradise! She cooked on Monday.

2. Am writing fanfic again! Not much, just a one-shot, 2000-word fic.

3. Got my nails done a week ago and they stayed looking good for quite a while.

1. I haven't mentioned my dad lately. He starts chemo and radiation on Monday. Doris and I had lunch with him and Mom a couple days ago. I think he's taking things in stride so far.

2. With the windchill, tomorrow it's supposed to feel like 49 below out. Grateful to have a home! And a job where I can work from home.

3. And grateful to have a flexible boss!

1. I get Monday (tomorrow) off. I've got a cold again though. But if I feel well enough, I will go get a massage

2. Nothing else is jumping to mind. I guess that's how it is when you're sick. Well, then I'll 'just' be glad for....having a roof over my head

3. ....and food on the table

1. I was going to do a post bemoaning the fact that I finished my last fanfic on December 1 and haven't written anything for 6 weeks. I hadn't wanted to. But then yesterday, the secret santa organizers contacted me to say that 1 writer had dropped out. (Previously I'd offered to pinch-hit). Long story short, I worked from home today but didn't have anything pressing, and I finished an 1,800-word draft. Yes! I don't love the fact that I need an exchange to feel 'compelled' to write (in this case, I feel bad for the giftee who never got her gift)....but whatever it takes. It was good to be writing again.

2. Working from home is so great

3. I'm not sick anymore
