1. I'm very lucky to have paid sick time

2. And lucky that when it was really cold on Wednesday, I was able to afford to take Lyft to/from work. (One of the drivers told me how much busier they are on cold days, as fewer people will wait for the bus)

3. Game night is Saturday; hopefully I will be less sick and able to go

1. I'm so happy about the fanfic I posted last week. It got more reviews than my fics usually get. Also it helped explain something. The story took place pre-Season 1 (AKA Academy era). Almost all of my other fics take place much later, but I see now that most fans seem to prefer Academy era. So maybe this helps explain why some of my other works didn't get the number of reviews I wanted

2. Although it's raining now, on Saturday we had gorgeous sunny weather. It was in the 50's which is crazy! Doris had to work but we enjoyed the day afterwards

3. And Sunday we had a nice, lazy, 'at home' day together.

1. It's freakishly warm in Chicago. Today was like 43 and sunny. I actually walked home from the el today. Also tomorrow's supposed to be great as well, and tomorrow is Saturday. I think I'll take a trip to Women and Children First!

2. The NYE party was so much fun! We played a ton of great boardgames. And I learned that I am truly best if I have NO booze. (Keeping it to just 1 drink doesn't do it. I'm best with none)

3. Two days ago I went back to work, and I liked and appreciated it. I get why not having a job can be associated with depression. On top of the obvious (like, no money), it can be hard not having something to do. It was just so good to get up on January 2 and have a mission, have a place I needed to be.

1. Two days till our big NYE/game night party!

2. And Doris once again has a 4-day weekend. Sadly this will be her last such weekend for a while. In fact, starting next weekend she's working every Saturday for the foreseeable future. So....she'll have 1 day weekends from here on out. Kind of a bummer, but we're at least enjoying this one.

3. We loved the restaurant we went to last Saturday that we went there again today. My god it's so good. I just wish it didn't take 45 minutes to get there. But they are open Sundays so we can still occasionally go there (on Doris's 1 day off...)

1. I had to call my insurance company about a strange bill I got, and the person was awesome and is taking care of it

2. Yesterday Christmas was great. Family got along well, food was excellent.

3. The best part of yesterday was...it's kind of a long story. But my sister and her husband originally weren't going to come for Christmas, because they came for Thanksgiving. So we all exchanged gifts then. But then my dad was diagnosed and they decided to come for Christmas. Even though we already all exchanged gifts, I bought everyone 'little' presents. They loved them! And mom did the same thing! My sis felt bad that she hadn't done so (and she said she'd thought about doing so), but we sincerely said that her being here was the gift.

1. For both Doris and me, our colds are mostly gone. Nothing makes you appreciate health more than the misery of a cold!

2. Just for a change of pace (and a staycation), we stayed at a Bed n Breakfast yesterday. (A real BnB, not an AirBnB). Our room was lovely and had a fireplace.

3. Oh and for lunch yesterday, we went to Alice and Friends. We both really love that place! It takes 45 minutes to get to, so we don't go often. But we both like it a lot.

1. It's Wednesday and I've had a cold since Monday. But I'm grateful for the fact that it's a mild one so far, and weirdly it already seems to be on its way out

2. One of my dad's tests came back and the results were good, but there's a lot more results we're waiting on

3. The sun is out and it's not that cold

I really want to do the 3 things lists especially given what I posted yesterday.

1. It's Sunday! Even though Doris is going to her mom's soon and will be there the rest of the day, at least we're having a nice, lazy morning

2. I did this thing on Facebook where I gave away $30 gift cards to globalgiving.org to the first 2 who commented on my post. I enjoyed that.

3. Doris and I did talk about the stuff I posted yesterday. She did say that hopefully working every Saturday will stop after a few months, and that she won't need to spend every Sunday helping her mom forever. She says getting through the next few months will help and then she should be able to take some Saturdays off again (and not have to be at her mom's every single weekend). Also she reminded me that her business did used to do well, and she's pretty optimistic that once she finds an associate dentist, it will do well again. (Although she's been looking for an associate for a long time now).

1. Getting a massage the day after tomorrow. I need it!

2. Work is going well.

3. And reading is going well. I'm in the middle of several good books, and just finished up a good one too.

Dang, I have not done one of these for a while!

1. Nice holiday dinner yesterday with Doris's employees

2. Getting close to when I get a lot of time off. I'm working a full week next week, then 2 days the week after, and then it'll be 14 days in a row off! (Although I will check emails and stuff like I always do)

3. Grateful for Doris!

1. Not only did I finish my fanfic for the Secret Santa, but I sent it off to my beta and she LOVED it! It's so nice to hear that someone loved your work. (Also, the fic isn't due till December 30, so I emailed the organizers to tell them that I can pinch-hit if need be)

2. Game night with friends yesterday

3. I had a nice experience involving me having to go to the bathroom really bad, a Middle Eastern guy who owned a gas station, the power being out, and him being really nice.

I worked late today, so it's late and my brain is tired. But I should do this list.

1. Grateful for the shows I love. Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl are especially good. Also watching The Gifted, Arrow, Black Lightning, and Flash. I like them all

2. My coworkers are great

3. Because I had a late 'work' dinner tonight, I am going to insist that I come in late tomorrow. (My boss is fine with whatever - it's ME who I have to insist to.)

1. It's been a nice 5 days in a row off. Doris and I got lots of time together. We celebrated with her family on Thanksgiving, and with mine (and most of hers too) on Saturday. Nothing shockingly great happened but it was all good

2. I weighed in the day after Thanksgiving and my weight was great - on the lower end of the range!

3. Friday we went to a drag show with Eric and stayed at a nice AirBnB afterwards. I'm just glad I was somehow able to stay up so late; the show ended at 10:30. I can't believe that I can sometimes still do a late night.

1. Five days in a row off started today! Yay!

2. I had a nice moment today. Since my day was pretty open, I decided to take the train to first go to a restaurant I like and then get Doris a birthday gift. It was so cold though! And I had to wait 14 minutes for the train. But when I got to Munch (the restaurant), it was so nice. The place was so warm and cozy, and they brought me hot tea right away.

3. In keeping with the holiday weekend, I'll mention I'm grateful for my family.

And now, two less-than-awesome things but I found the first one bemusing.

A. I logged into the email account which I use almost exclusively to receive feedback on fanfics. My heart leapt when I saw I had 8 new emails. I rarely have that many! My heart leapt again when I saw they were all from fanfiction.net, so they were all reviews/favorites/followings of fanfics. And then...my heart sank just a bit when I saw they were for 2 fics that I wrote no less than 13 years ago. For a fandom I'm not in any more. I'm always happy to get a review or feedback or a kudo, but you gotta laugh because any writer wants them for stuff in their current fandom, not stuff from 5 fandoms ago. :)

B. Also, Doris went to help her mom today and her mom insisted she get there early. And...she did a lot of sitting around and waiting. I wish Doris would push back on her a bit because I was basically bereft of Doris all day. Ah, families.

1. It's hard to believe I was in a writing drought not long ago. Now I not only have 12,200 pages written in my fanfic but even more ideas plus the outline for my secret santa writing assignment.

2. I got home from my travels on Friday, turned on my computer, and saw that Agents of SHIELD has been renewed for Season 7!! This is crazy good! Season 6 isn't even done filming yet. Most seasons the show barely eeks out a renewal. And yet somehow they announced that we will get a season 7!!

3. Also, sleep. Sleep is so good. Wednesday night I didn't sleep well, worried I'd miss my early flights on Thursday. But Thursday night I had a quiet evening in the hotel, went to bed early, and had 8 hours of glorious sleep.

So I'm on a business trip, and I always get a bit homesick on trips. This one is just 3 nights/4 days but I still get a twinge homesick. So I was just reflecting how great technology can be. Yesterday Doris and I are each watching Arrow (her at home, me in AirBnB) and texting during it. I'm also messaging with Ann (who's at a benefit), Laurie (who's working on the Florida recount), awesome coworker Erin (showing her pics of my AirBnb), and my Agents of SHIELD fan friends (who are beta-ing for me). It's all good.

The AirBnb I'm at is cozy and adorable.

I'll make this all 3 things!

1. I'm at 7,200 words on my fanfic. More importantly, I asked myself before I started if I'd be ok if the only feedback I got was from my 2 betas. I said yes, I'm good with that and I still want to write it anyway. And it's coming along really well! And the betas have already looked over early drafts and left great feedback (and ideas).

2. I'm not looking forward to the rest of this week, as I'll be traveling on business from Tues-Fri. Two different cities, so 3 airplane rides. But hey, glad to have a job. And I think Tuesday and Thursday evenings I'll have plenty of time to write in my hotel room

3. And the cat is excessively cute and cuddly. So there's that.

1. Yay, I'm writing again! I guess the desire to do so just basically returned.

2. Today went to a meeting of the local Dems. A lot of celebrating; we have much to celebrate. Also, great article on the election here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/opinions/wp/2018/11/09/three-days-later-hey-republicans-really-did-get-clobbered/?fbclid=IwAR2qc3-obv8Vxd-McF3u368QBaqxkZ_qWstvQLCB76gW3nPttbyV_5svQmA&noredirect=on&utm_term=.1b944d404092

3. Doris is off today. We so rarely have a Saturday where she's not working and where we don't have big plans. We're going to Blind Faith Cafe, a great restaurant (but one we rarely visit because it's far)

1. More good than bad with the election results. The 2 candidates who I canvassed for won, and that was great because it's 2 House seats that flipped! The election wasn't the tsunami I'd hoped for but it was a pretty good wave. Also, Beto seems to have a future despite not winning.

2. and 3. I will just go with the usual. Grateful for my job, my spouse, my health

But I'm sad. My passion for being a SHIELD fan is just still on hold. This is not like me. I usually stay in a fandom a long time. This happened with my last fandom too; I dropped out fast. I don't like it, I miss being a crazy fangirl, and I just don't understand why the change. As I get older, do I get more tired of stuff sooner? Is my brain trying to protect me from having another 2013? (A year when I went way off the deep end with fan-girling). Am I that 'thirsty' that I drop something if not enough people read my fics? Or is it one of those things with no good reason?

Seriously, I miss reading and writing fanfic. Maybe I should just try to write some, like force it out and see what happens.

1. Yesterday I went out canvassing for Lauren Underwood. It went well and I'm glad to be helping out. I'm taking Tuesday off so I can canvas for Sean Casten.

2. Today Doris and I had another quiet Sunday mostly at home together

3. On Tumblr, two FS fans are organizing an FS Secret Santa exchange. I had hoped they would! Even though my muse is gone, I really want to do this.

And speaking of the above....While I was changing the bedsheets today, I had a good 'talking to myself' session about my now-disappeared drive to write. First I asked myself that if I were being brutally honest, do I write because I love to write or because I want reviews?

I thought the answer was somewhere in between.

But then I asked myself that if I had more reviews and kudos, would I write more and would I perhaps not've had my muse disappear?

I answered yeah, probably. But then I also countered that my beta tester J has been so good; she reads everything I write and gives detailed, great feedback. I'd write just for her. (I also have a second beta, L, who is not as effusive but still gives good comments). But the fact remains that despite J and L and their almost-guaranteed good feedback, I'm not writing. So then perhaps the answer truly is that I don't do it just for the comments. I think I do lean on the side of writing because of love of the craft.

So overall I think that's a good thing? Even though it doesn't solve my muse-disappeared problem.
