Some more good things
Feb. 8th, 2022 05:09 pmMy gratitude post today is basically fandom and food!
- I'm pleased with how I spent my Sunday doing "batch cooking" for the week. I made winter vegetable hash and teriyaki veg noodles. And then I had some time today, so I made a new recipe from the Forks Over Knives cookbook. I'd never made it before - it's a salad with sweet potatoes, rice, cabbage, grapes, peanuts, cilantro and a dressing consisting of rice vinegar, lime juice, soy sauce, and pepper. And OMG it was fantastic! (And Doris and I now have enough dishes to provide us lunch and dinner for at least the next 3-4 days)
- The actor from The Outpost (Jake Stormoen) scheduled another round of Cameo calls! So of course I got a ticket. It's on Sunday, and I'm really looking forward to it. I think I like it partially because I get an excuse to put on makeup, false eyelashes, and to do my hair.
- And hey game night is Saturday! So I can also do makeup and hair that day if I want. (And now I'm like 'ugh, I have to look presentable 2 days in a row'. JK!)
- On the Spartacus discord, we were talking about the actor (Antonio te Maioha) who portrayed one of my favorite characters (Barca). Someone linked to an old Facebook page that either Antonio himself ran, or that he perhaps had a social media manager or a friend manage. All the posts were written as if they came from him. There were some great pics on there that I'd never seen before, so I happily saved them! And he's an environmental activist in his native New Zealand so there were some good posts on that.
But two things are sad about it. One is that he hasn't updated the page since 2017. Either he got tired of it, or tired of paying a social media manager to do it, or he saw no value in it, or heck FB has been declining in popularity since before 2017 so maybe that was a factor. Antonio has no social media presence nowadays. I really wish he would do some form of social media.
The other kinda sad thing? He made a comment shouting out to the 2 actors on Spartacus who had played Barca's love interests, and he said he was "blessed" to act opposite both of the men who had played Barca's partners, and they were both "great people, great souls". I thought that was supersweet and I was so happy to see that. (FWIW, Antonio and both of the actors who played Barca's partners are straight). So what's the sad thing there? As far as I know, Antonio has never had another on-screen love interest. And he likely never will get another one. His roles have all been supporting roles, and he is often a bad guy. He is brown-skinned and 6'4" and 51 years old now (he was 38-39 when filming Spartacus) and he looks "tough". I hate the fact that he gets typecast and that he might truly never get another on-camera love interest. (So, uh, I guess it's good that he liked the 2 dudes who he got to kiss on camera?) :)
